Tiny Steps Learning Center, located in Paterson, NJ, is a childcare facility that provides a welcoming, caring, safe and nurturing environment where children can develop life skills, enjoy developmentally appropriate play experiences, and where every staff member is important. Our successful program is expanding, and we are looking for teachers passionate about working with young children to join our amazing team. Our Lead Teachers provide warm, caring environments where children learn and grow while mentoring and supporting Assistant teachers.

We are seeking a qualified preschool Lead Teacher, with prior Early Childhood care experience.

Reports to: Center Director.

Basic Functions:Preschool teachers educate and care for children, usually ages 3 to 5, who have not yet entered kindergarten. They teach reading, writing, science, and other subjects in a way that young children can understand. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: physical caregiving, developmental assessments, following the age-appropriate curricular plan, and facilitation of supportive relationships with the director, co-workers, parents, and students.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 2 years of proven experience working with preschool children in a daycare setting.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred but will accept associate degree in education or a current CDA certification.
  • Excellent understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods.
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
  • A passion for working with young children.
  • Have good written and oral communication skills and experience interacting with parents.
  • Be a team player, able to work cohesively with other classroom staff.
  • The ability to lift a maximum of 45 pounds daily, multiple times per day.
  • Submit to various background checks including those completed through the Department of Human Services.
  • Be CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certified or obtain certification upon hire.
  • Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations.
  • Be available for full-time employment and available to work as late as 6:00 pm.

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs as well as their educational needs.
  • Be able to work within the curriculum guidelines, demonstrating innovation and creativity.
  • Utilize developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods at all times.
  • Be a positive role model for all caregiving staff and children.
  • Be customer service orientated and professional.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare young children for kindergarten by easing them into a structured, organized educational environment.
  • Contribute to the social and emotional development of the children so they can more easily transition into the next level of education.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, nurturing and clean learning environment for the children.
  • Work collaboratively with an assistant teacher and delegate tasks to improve the flow of the classroom.
  • Create and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans that peak the interests of the children and help them develop their artistic and practical capabilities.
  • Provide a reasonable balance between teacher-directed and child-directed activities.
  • Track children’s progress and prepare assessments.
  • Understand, comply, and uphold Tiny Steps Values, standards and education program.
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations relating to childcare.
