Job Summary:The Phlebotomist will engage in morning fieldwork as part of a coordinated street psychiatry team, serving 3-4 assigned office locations within Los Angeles County. Their responsibilities include conducting venipuncture for 1-4 clients per outing, encompassing individuals found on the streets, residing in shelters, or within their residences. It's crucial to note that the Phlebotomist will always operate in tandem with other healthcare professionals during these field visits, never working alone with clients. This fieldwork primarily focuses on clients prescribed clozapine, necessitating regular blood draws to monitor their absolute neutrophil count (ANC).
In the afternoon, the Phlebotomist will transition to on-site clinical duties at one of our stationary directly operated clinics, as detailed in the locations provided (below). The timing of these afternoon clinic sessions may vary, commencing either before or after lunch, contingent upon the workload associated with the morning street psychiatry team activities.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Blood Collection: Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens for diagnostic testing.
  • Patient Interaction: Interact with patients in a professional and compassionate manner, ensuring their comfort and understanding of the phlebotomy process.
  • Specimen Handling: Properly label and handle collected specimens to maintain sample integrity. Prepare and package specimens for transportation to the laboratory.
  • Quality Control: Follow established protocols and procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of collected specimens. Implement quality control measures to maintain high standards of performance.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient information, specimen collection, and other relevant data. Enter information into the laboratory information system (LIS) as required.
  • Infection Control: Adhere to strict infection control practices to minimize the risk of contamination during specimen collection.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and clean phlebotomy equipment to ensure proper functionality. Report any equipment malfunctions or issues promptly.
  • Continuing Education: Stay informed about developments in phlebotomy techniques, safety protocols, and relevant healthcare regulations. Participate in continuing education opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Compliance: CPTs are responsible for ensuring compliance with CA DPH regulations and adhering to the rules and regulations of the assigned hospitals and/or clinics. This encompasses maintaining licensures, participating in required trainings, and overseeing tasks such as retrieving medical records to uphold regulatory standards.

Job Requirements:
  • California Dept. of Public Health (CDPH) License in Phlebotomy (CPT-I)
  • Minimum of one year phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting or mobile CPT position
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Current CPR Card issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Must have proof of MMR, Varicella vaccinations or titers.
  • Proof of TB/PPD or Chest X-ray within the past 12 Months
  • Current Annual Health Clearance
  • Reliable source of transportation
