Job Summary:Under the supervision of Maintenance Technician II Maintenance Technician I will be responsible for completing general maintenance duties including but not limited to maintaining the interior and exterior appearance of Urban Peaks facilities, light plumbing, electrical and carpentry functions,  , managing and completing preventive maintenance duties, and working with vendors. f. The Maintenance Technician I will respond to tenant reports, of mechanical and/or maintenance issues, move-ins and outs, maintaining the facility's fire and other safety systems, and some light painting or structure repair.

This position will ensure that interactions, interventions, and environments at Urban Peak are trauma-informed and emphasize the physical and emotional safety of youth and staff.

 Who You Are:
  • 1 to 3 years’ of general maintenance experience
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • Lived experience reflective of the youth we serve encouraged but not required.
  • Familiarity with basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn about commercial HVAC systems
  • Ability to use computer-based work order tracking systems to include computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Outlook). 
  • Experience working with at-risk populations preferred 
  • Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage day-to-day schedule independently
  • Understanding of the provision of and commitment to trauma informed care and positive youth development.
  • Reliable and insurable transportation that is able to haul tools, equipment and inventory is required
  • Ability to use second language in written and verbal communication desired (Spanish, Vietnamese, ASL)
  • Must have and maintain operation of a smart phone that supports necessary applications and maintain a phone service to respond to emergency calls, emails, and maintenance requests
  • Related experience includes commercial cleaning, painting and landscaping
  • Must be able to work independently and uphold quality control standards as determined by Urban Peak
  • Must be insurable as a driver on Urban Peak’s auto liability policy in order to conduct business on behalf of the agency using an approved personal vehicle
  • Must pass both federal and state background checks
  • Must pass pre-employment TB screening
 

What You Will Do:General Maintenance:
  • Completion of minor repairs, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical functions
  • Completion of minor preventive maintenance to reduce the risk of future problems Check the functionality of safety systems
  • Maintaining and repairing and/or working with vendors' warranties for facilities issues to include kitchen issues as needed 
  • Report safety-related concerns and address as directed
 Residential Units:
  • Complete minor repairs and/or cleaning of residential units for new and exiting occupants
  • Wall patch repair, and painting as needed
  • Changing light fixtures
  • Light plumbing work 
 Building Exterior:
  • Clean up grounds as needed
  • Perform minor landscaping
  • Perform light snow/ice removal
  • Clean walls and sidewalks as needed
  Sanitation:
  • Support janitorial activities as directed
  • Report unsanitary conditions and address as directed

Administrative:
  • Read and respond to company emails
  • Check, respond to, and update assigned work orders
  • Retain documentation related to services and expenses
  • Provide documentation and other information to supervisors as requested
  • Attend and complete agency training and meetings as scheduled 

Other:
  • Meet and escort vendors as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Shift: This is a full-time position.  The typical work schedule is Monday – Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  This position may require some weekends and/or evenings to support the needs of the agency

Who We Are:Founded in 1988, Urban Peak is the only non-profit organization in Denver that provides a full convergence of services for youth ages 15 through 24 experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of becoming homeless. Our goal is to meet youth where they are and to provide them with the assistance and support, they need to become self-sufficient or obtain the necessary services they need to exit a life on the streets.

Urban Peak provides numerous programs and services founded on the principles of trauma-informed care and positive youth development to assist youth in reaching their potential and living a successful life off the streets. Services include street outreach, a 40-bed shelter for youth ages 15 through 20, a daytime drop-in center, supportive housing, education and employment services, case management, life skills courses, behavioral health evaluations, meals and more.
