We are opening a position for an LMSW or LCSW in our group practice, Ryan M. Kull PhD & Associates. Our work is deeply rooted in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches, ranging from traditional object relational theory to more contemporary relational and cutting-edge psychodynamic thinking. Your peers are a close-knit, discerning, and talented group of psychotherapists serious about their clinical work, deeply curious, and eager to learn. At our group, theory-informed practice and supervision goes deep, not wide, with a culture of learning that seeks to better understand our patients and ourselves as people in the room.  

Clinic director Dr. Ryan Kull has 25 years of experience as a clinician, educator, and student of psychoanalysis (currently completing his candidacy at NYU’s Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis). Co-director Ezra Yurman-Whyde is a current Smith College PhD candidate training at the William Alanson White Institute. We offer pathways to licensure for recent graduates of social work programs, providing the required supervision and setting to achieve NYS clinical licensure. Additionally, we seek LCSWs from all ranges of experience that are still eager to learn, but also want to make contributions to the professional development of our team and represent our work to the larger professional community. Many of us have specialized in issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity, and applicants with these interests are likely to be a very strong fit. We also encourage applicants interested in post-graduate training and psychoanalytic theory to inquire about this opportunity.
Minimum requirements for the role:
  • Completion of master’s degree in social work from an accredited program and LMSW or LCSW licensure in New York State.
  • Ability to commit to seeing 15 patients a week, with a mix of in-person, evening, and/or weekend availability (2 out of 3).
  • Commitment to individual and group supervision, and periodic didactic training. All training occurs on Thursday morning before noon. We require you to be available on Thursdays between 9am-12pm for group supervision, trainings and clinic meetings.
  • Curiosity (not necessarily experience) in trauma and psychoanalytic theories.
  • Experience in providing individual, family and/or group therapy.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Applicants with interests in research (primarily qualitative), teaching, presenting, and publishing are highly encouraged to apply. 

Compensation:Fee-for-service clinicians receive a percentage of the paid session fee (40%-60%) depending on their level of experience, and opportunities to grow into full-time positions exist. Unlike many other group practices, psychotherapists here have access to regular training from both the directors and from experts in the field, weekly individual and group supervision, peer support, and didactic offerings at no cost. While a minimum caseload consists of 15 patients, carrying a caseload of 25 patients comes with company-sponsored or contributions to health benefits. Options for performance-based bonuses also exist.
