Mechanical Design Draftsperson
Job Summary: We are seeking a Mechanical Design Draftsperson to join our team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in utilizing AutoCAD 3D, SolidWorks, or Inventor to create and revise drawings. They must be able to generate new vehicle floorplans and designs from concept, taking in consideration manufacturability and effective cost. The applicant must be able to support standard product and special customer project work and is responsible for producing manufacturing and other supporting information for release into Master’s Transportation’s operating systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create new vehicle floorplans and support vehicle design activities.
- Perform cost analysis for new or existing design.
- Ensure availability of proposed components for a design.
- Create/revise drawings utilizing AutoCAD 3D, SolidWorks or Inventor from mark ups or verbal instruction.
- Create vehicle floorplans from concept, in a fashion to enable detailed drawings.
- Assist with raw material selection, weight calculations and dimensioning for assembly.
- Ensure mechanical fit of all equipment in each production unit.
- Create/maintain and release data/drawings in operating systems and data files.
- Self-check completed assignments and cross check co-workers’ completed assignments.
- Perform electrical tasks when necessary.
- Maintain computer software hierarchy.
- Coordinate activities for Team Members sharing the same assignment, produce quality work and meet time schedule.
- Work with manufacturing personnel to ensure manufacturability and to resolve installation and assembly difficulties.
- Work with Sales and product engineering personnel.
- Respond to ER's (Engineering Request of change) or equivalent for product corrections and improvements.
- Maintain confidentiality of all required information.
- Some travel to vendor and customer sites required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- Associate’s degree in mechanical technology or equal.
- Training in AutoCAD and/or Inventor/SolidWorks.
- Familiarity with Spanish language a plus.
Technical Skills / Knowledge:
- Basic computer hardware skills.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Organizational skills.
- Typing.
- Knowledge of single level bills of material and production routings.
- Knowledge of math/algebra (i.e. areas of plane, volume of solids).
- Knowledge of metal and non-ferrous materials and their properties.
- Knowledge of SI (metric) system.
- Familiarity with manufacturing practices.
- Knowledge of U.S. Customary system (inches) and SI system (Metric), various ANSI and ISO Engineering and drafting standards.
- General knowledge of ISO 9001 standards; detail knowledge of chapters Design control, document control and non-conforming product.
- Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft products, AutoCAD, Inventor.
- Knowledge of inspection tools, i.e. dial caliber, tape measure.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electronic tools used in assembly/disassembly and test of the equipment.
