Job Description:
We are currently seeking a talented and passionate Sous Chef to join our culinary team at Gecko Hospitality. As the Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef to oversee kitchen operations, manage food preparation, and ensure the highest standards of quality and consistency are maintained. This is an exciting opportunity to showcase your culinary skills and contribute to the success of our restaurant.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Head Chef in planning and executing the restaurant's menu, ensuring that all dishes are prepared with attention to detail and consistency.
  • Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff during food preparation, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to recipes and quality standards.
  • Train and mentor kitchen team members, providing guidance on proper cooking techniques, food safety procedures, and kitchen organization.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist in ordering and stocking kitchen supplies and ingredients to minimize waste and ensure smooth operations.
  • Collaborate with the Head Chef to develop new menu items and specials, incorporating seasonal and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.
  • Ensure that all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and in good working condition, and coordinate with maintenance staff for repairs as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen area, including food storage areas, preparation surfaces, and equipment, in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of cost-control measures to maximize profitability while maintaining quality and guest satisfaction.
  • Support the Head Chef in managing kitchen expenses, labor costs, and scheduling to meet budgetary targets.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, communication, and mutual respect among kitchen staff.

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef or senior line cook in a fast-paced restaurant environment, preferably with scratch cooking experience.
  • Strong culinary skills and a passion for creating flavorful and visually appealing dishes using fresh, seasonal ingredients.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with kitchen staff and management.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations, with certification in ServSafe or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Compensation:
  • Hourly rate of $25/hour
