Title: IT SpecialistReports to: Director of IT Department: Information Technology Grade/FLSA:  Location: Glastonbury, CT 

Position Overview:  Reporting to the company's Director of IT, System Administrator 1 is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and operation of computer systems and servers. His/Her primary role is to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of an organization's computer network by installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and software systems, monitoring network performance, troubleshooting system and network problems, and ensuring data security and backup. 

System Administrator 1 will work with a variety of computer systems, including servers, operating systems, and network devices. They are responsible for ensuring that systems are properly configured, updated, and secured against security threats such as viruses, malware, and hackers. They may also be responsible for managing user accounts, permissions, and access to various systems and applications. 

In addition to technical skills, System Administrator 1 must have good communication and problem-solving skills (resolving hardware and software issues) to work effectively with other members of the organization. He/She must be able to analyze and resolve complex problems and be willing to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in their field. 

System administrator 1 must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment while strengthening the company's image as the employer of choice across all channels. He/She must model and act according to iTi's mission, vision, core values, leadership behaviors, and norms and play a critical role in implementing the same across the organization and the people they interact with regularly.  

THE FOLLOWING KEY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES OUTLINED BELOW ARE CRITICAL TO THIS POSITION'S SUCCESS.
 
50% - Install, monitor, manage, and troubleshoot system performance and issues in a timely manner
 
  • Learn and support how to monitor the performance of servers, network devices, and other computer systems (hardware and software) to identify and resolve performance issues. 
  • Assist with troubleshooting system and network issues, such as network connectivity problems or application errors. 
  • Lead and assist with the installation and configuration of software applications and updates on servers, computers, tablets, and workstations. 
  • Provide technical support to users, troubleshoot issues, and provide training on software and hardware systems as required. 
  • Ensure that there is a precise and up-to-date evaluation of equipment and technology supplies usage throughout the organization. 
  • Provide prompt and timely responses to assigned tickets as well as regularly scheduled tasks. 
  • Respond promptly to any issues and collaborate with senior colleagues and vendors for necessary escalations. 
  • Track and manage equipment inventory, including but not limited to desktops, laptops, displays, peripherals, and other supplies. 
  • Identify and resolve hardware and software issues, and escalate them if required. 

30% - Establish and drive account management, backup, recovery, and systems management to ensure the utmost control of data and company information 
  • Learn and manage user accounts by creating, modifying, or deleting them. Also, reset passwords and manage permissions and access control for all users based on their departments and individual needs while following company policies and procedures. 
  • Assist with data backup and recovery procedures, including configuring backup schedules and performing data restores. 

10% - Be the lead in implementing security management and technical documentation and training to ensure hundred percent compliance at all times. 
  • Learn and monitor the implementation and maintain system security policies and procedures, including configuring firewalls, antivirus software, and intrusion detection systems. 
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of system documentation, including IT-related standard operating procedures, policies, and system configurations. 
  • Create documentation that is clear and informative for both end users and technical personnel. 
  • Offer end users the relevant training or power user tips that they may require to enhance their operational efficiency. 

10% - Remain open-minded and receptive to learning and adapting to the dynamic technology, hardware, and software needs of the organization. 
  • Be a continuous and never-ending learner .
  • Demonstrate a commitment to staying informed and conducting research and provide recommendations on the latest best practices and technological advancements that align with the organization's growth strategies. 
  • Collaborate with other IT professionals, including system administrators, network engineers, and software developers, to ensure system integration and compatibility. 

Key success measures (outcomes) for this position:   
  • Effective management of user accounts, passwords, permissions, and access control to ensure the security and confidentiality of company data. 
  • Timely resolution of hardware and software issues to minimize downtime and prevent loss of productivity. 
  • Accurate and up-to-date documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides to enable other team members to resolve issues efficiently. 
  • Efficient management of technology assets, including inventory management, maintenance, and replacement planning to ensure that equipment is properly maintained and updated as needed. 
  • Effective communication and collaboration with team members and end-users to identify issues, resolve problems, and improve the overall technology experience for all stakeholders. 
  • Implementation of backup and recovery procedures to minimize data loss in the event of a system failure or other disaster. 
  • Proactive identification and resolution of potential security risks, including the deployment of patches, updates, and other security measures to protect company data and systems. 
  • Continuous learning and professional development to keep up with emerging technologies and industry best practices, and the ability to apply this knowledge to improve the organization's technology environment. 

EDUCATION 
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.  
  • Alternatively, an Associate degree in computer science with 3 to 5 years of experience and technical certification in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.  
  • Preferred Industry-standard certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+. 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE / Skills / personal characteristics 
  • 1-2 years of experience in system administration or a related field. This may include experience with operating systems, network infrastructure, and system administration tools. 
  • Expert in managing and troubleshooting hardware and software systems, network administration, and database management.  
  • Knowledgeable about various operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, and Unix. Additionally, they should have basic experience with scripting languages like PowerShell and Python. 
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with teams and end-users.  
  • Ability to work under pressure and excellent problem-solving abilities. Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks are critically important. 
  • Advanced computer skills that include Microsoft Office, statistical software, and project management and flowcharting software 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to distill down complicated analytical data and information into meaningful insights and action steps so that everyone can understand and maximize utilization 
  • Ability to successfully interface with all levels and areas of the organization 
  • A great willingness to learn and teach as required
