The Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining hyperbaric oxygen chambers, assisting patients during hyperbaric treatments, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of the hyperbaric oxygen therapy process.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Preparation and Monitoring:
  • Assist patients in understanding the hyperbaric oxygen therapy process and provide information on safety procedures.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs before, during, and after hyperbaric treatments.
  • Ensure patients are properly prepared for hyperbaric sessions, including checking for contraindications.
  • Operation of Hyperbaric Chambers:
  • Operate hyperbaric oxygen chambers, including the control and monitoring of atmospheric conditions.
  • Educate patients on the procedures for entering and exiting the hyperbaric chamber safely.
  • Ensure proper pressurization and depressurization according to established protocols.
  • Safety and Emergency Procedures:
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of safety protocols and emergency procedures related to hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to any emergencies or complications during treatments.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
  • Perform routine maintenance on hyperbaric chambers and associated equipment.
  • Conduct safety checks and calibrations to ensure proper functionality.
  • Coordinate with biomedical engineering or equipment vendors for more complex repairs.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping:
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient treatments, including session details, vital signs, and any observed reactions.
  • Document chamber maintenance, equipment checks, and any incidents during treatments.
  • Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient progress and any issues related to hyperbaric treatments.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to discuss patient care plans.
  • Patient Education:
  • Provide educational materials and information to patients regarding the benefits and potential risks of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
  • Address patient questions and concerns related to the treatment process.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Certification as a Hyperbaric Technologist or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in operating hyperbaric chambers and administering hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
  • Knowledge of hyperbaric safety procedures, emergency protocols, and contraindications.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to monitor and respond to patient needs.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a healthcare team.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and patient care.
