Job OverviewA foreman is responsible for ensuring that everything goes smoothly at a construction site. They are responsible for being the point of contact between the construction workers and supervisors. A few of the main duties of a foreman are coordinating tasks for the day, creating schedules for workers, oversee quality of the site, and managing the budget. They also have to report the progress of the project to superiors. Some of the jobs titles that a foreman could grow into are construction supervisor and construction manager.
 
 A foreman should have four years of experience in the construction industry as well as a high school diploma or GED equivalent. One of the most important skills that a foreman will have is attention to detail. Another skill is organization as the foreman will have to be able to run a construction site effectively.

Responsibilities for Foreman:
  • Report project progress to superiors
  • Develop a work schedule for workers
  • Supervise all construction workers
  • Be the liaison between construction workers and supervisors
  • Solve disputes between workers
  • Ensure that a project is adequately staffed
  • Assign tasks to construction workers
  • Ensure that the project is staying on or under budget

Qualifications for Foreman:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Ability to organize a work schedule
  • Ability to solve disputes between workers
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to negotiate
  • Deep knowledge of the construction industry and processes
  • Ability to read construction drawings and blueprints
  • Perform quality checks on construction equipment

Minimal Qualifications:

Must have:
  • At least 5+ years of running a demolition crew
  • Ability to delegate job duties to crew members
  • Personal accountability and reliability
  • Some ability in operating machinery such as skid steers and excavators
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
  • Must be able to pass drug and 7 year background checks
  • Blue Print Reading
  • Shooting and setting grades
  • Carpentry Skills for constructing and setting forms
