As a veterinary technician at our practice, you'll be at the forefront of patient care, working closely with our team to provide comprehensive support and assistance.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Collecting blood (jugular and leg draws), stool, urine or tissue samples for testing
- Performing laboratory tests, such as urinalysis, heartworm tests, feline leukemia tests and blood counts
- Ability to place catheters
- Performing Radiographs with proper technique and positioning
- Sterilizing instruments and equipment
- Perform dental scaling and polishing
- Preparing animals for surgery
- Monitoring animals under anesthesia
- Asking probing questions about the reason for a client’s visit
- Recording case history, weight, temperature and other details
- Safely restrain and stabilize animals during examination and treatment
- Trimming nails, expressing anal glands, removing sutures and performing other routine procedures
- Administering medications, vaccines, and treatments prescribed by a veterinarian
- Providing basic education on animal care, nutrition and medical conditions
- Teaching clients how to administer medicines at home
- Recommending products for optimal wellness, such as vitamins, supplements, dental cleaning, heartworm/flea control, geriatric care and dietary measures
- Preparing and labeling medications to be sent home with the patient
Experience in any of the following is a plus:
- Maintain animal records and billing information using Cornerstone Management Software
- Clean and organize examination rooms
- Order, organize, label and restock supplies and pet foods
- Answer phones
- Schedule appointments
- Greet customers
- Prepare invoices
- Discharge patients
- Follow up with clients
Requirements:
- To thrive in this role, you should have at least 2 years of experience in the exotic veterinary industry.
- While licensure or certification is desired, it's not mandatory—we're more interested in your passion, dedication, and willingness to learn.
