About the JobLooking for a Staff Pharmacist for an independent pharmacy located inside of a Eastern Carolina Medical Center in Benson, NC.
We need someone who has Pioneer Rx experience or is tech savvy to learn a new system.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, Doctor of Pharmacy, or other advanced pharmacy degree required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changes as necessary.
  • Ability to work well without supervision and to supervise personnel.
  • Ability to interact constructively with supervisors, peers, and support personnel.
  • Ability to analyze data and follow up and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ability to keep accurate and complete records.
  • Ability to teach, precept, and facilitate experiential training.
  • Initiative to keep abreast of developments in the provision of pharmacy services.
  • Initiative to keep abreast of new information/products/developments in the field of pharmacy.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, pharmacy technology, and pharmacy automation.
  • Proficiency in retail independent pharmacy practice, patient-centred care, advanced pharmacy practice, medication therapy management, and evidence-based medicine.
  • Working knowledge of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Accreditation Standards for Pharmacy Residency Programs.
  • Ability to coordinate and lead small groups of people in determining policy, implementing procedures, and demonstrating progress.
  • Leadership qualities are essential to operate effectively within the institution and advance the practice of pharmacy.
  • Ability to define operational or program problems/needs and solutions (Preferred).
  • Ability to integrate clinical and distributive pharmacy services with quality improvement, teaching, research, and professional development activities (Preferred).
  • Working analytical and data management skills (Preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Preferred).

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:
  • Current, valid State of North Carolina Pharmacist license.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Pharmacy Operations - Actively performs all pharmacist functions, actively participates in established standard work parameters and maintains functional proficiency in and actively provides coverage of central pharmacy and satellite areas as requested. Oversees and ensures appropriate utilization of medication automation, technology, and computer systems. Accurately oversees the management of medication inventories and the preparation and dispensing of patient-specific medication doses. Supervises technician and intern practice prioritizes work load, organizes workflow, and checks accuracy of pharmacy technician activities.
  • Pharmacy Practice - Completes critical medication order scrutiny, drug profile review, and patient monitoring to identify, prevent, or mitigate medication-related problems. Proficiently verifies/enters medication orders and proactively communicates with medical staff to resolve problem medication orders. Provides patient-centered care services, including accurate, safe and timely medication therapy, and promotes cost-effective drug therapy, including actively participating in stewardship activities and restricted medication/surveillance programs. Initiates and facilitates appropriate drug dosing and manages medication-related pharmacist consults. Facilitates medication safety practices, including identifying, mitigating, and reporting potential and actual adverse drug events, adverse drug reactions, and medication errors. Participates in the management of medical emergencies. Maintains continuous learning and pharmacy practice development. Leads and facilitates pharmacy practice programs direct patient care services, and medication systems, including developing and monitoring patient care and pharmacy practice metrics. Effectively collaborates with an outside physicians' office, ACO and strategic business unit leaders to advance patient care services and pharmacy programs.
  • Teamwork and Inter-professional Collaboration - Presents to assigned areas on time and ready to work and does not exhibit excessive unscheduled absenteeism. Ensures continuity of care between shifts, among pharmacy staff assignments, and across pharmacy practice areas. Supports other pharmacy operations and areas outside of current assignment. Works effectively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure the best outcome for the patient and demonstrates sensitivity to the perspective of the patient, caregiver, or healthcare colleague in all communications. Assists pharmacy managers with the integration of clinical pharmacy services, drug utilization programs, and pharmacy operations throughout the institution.
  • Teaching, Training, Precepting, and Mentoring - Mentors new staff and assists with training of all staff as requested. Develops and maintains quality training opportunities and relationships for teaching and precepting pharmacy students and residents. Actively precepts and mentors pharmacy students (IPPE and APPE) and pharmacy residents (PGY1 and PGY2 residents). Demonstrates desire and aptitude for teaching and mentoring experiential education, maintains a mastery of quality preceptor attributes including the four preceptor roles. Completes preceptor skills assessment and development programs and actively demonstrates preceptors' skills credentials from approved sources. Delivers or mentors trainees to deliver effective evidence-based education to other healthcare providers.
  • Quality Improvement, Regulatory Compliance, and Accreditation - Provides quality improvement initiatives to improve medication-related processes, pharmacy systems, or patient care programs. Provides regulatory compliance initiatives and supports institutional accreditation processes. Leads initiatives and actively participates in procedures to maintain full ASHP Accreditation of all pharmacy residency programs. Identifies practice-related issues which require an evaluation and facilitates clinical research projects, and quality improvement initiatives. Identifies, resolves, and reports short- and long-term obstacles to patient care and medication safety, regulatory compliance, or stewardship of resources. Proactively uses data analysis techniques to track, monitor, and communicate the clinical quality, operational, and financial outcomes of assigned areas and to benchmark performance against internal targets and against local and national best practices. Designs facilitate, and coordinate or mentors trainees to conduct medication use evaluations. Designs facilitate, and coordinates or mentor pharmacy residents to conduct evidence-based practice-related or quality improvement initiatives.
  • Professional Activities and Practice Advancements - Maintains a record of contribution and sustained commitment to pharmacy practice via documentation of pharmacist professional activities and practice advancement accomplishments. Documents a sustained record of improvements in and contributions to pharmacy practice. Maintains active appointment to a drug policy or hospital, system, or medical staff committee as assigned. Documents a sustained record of contributing to the total body of knowledge in pharmacy practice through publications in professional journals and/or presentations at professional meetings or serving as an external reviewer. Demonstrates leadership in advancing the profession of pharmacy through active service in professional organizations at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Leadership and Organizational Involvement - Participates in departmental meetings and educational activities as assigned. Supports practice advancement initiatives, clinical research projects, and stewardship initiatives led by colleagues and peers. Maintains professional image by participating in department practice councils and external pharmacy professional groups (local, state, or national). Documents baseline leadership attributes through completion of required internal leadership curriculum. Maintains continuous learning and leadership development. Exhibits business skills essential to a practice-based leader and participates in the pharmacy department planning and budgeting process.
