Are you the missing ingredient for our team? Franklin Inn Mexican Restaurant is located in a thriving and growing area of the North Hills of Pittsburgh in Franklin Park, just minutes from the 279 (Camp Horne) and 79 (Mt. Nebo and Wexford) exit. Established in 1978, the Franklin Inn focuses on Mexican food and beverages served with neighborhood hospitality.  We possess a friendly neighborhood eclectic vibe in a casual setting with appetizers, entrees, desserts, margaritas and more featuring better ingredients mostly scratch-made in-house. We are a small but super busy at times 55 seat restaurant (dining room and bar).  Take out and catering are also available. Public Kitchen hours are currently 4 pm to 9:30 pm weeknights and 4 pm to 10 pm on Friday and Saturday.   We very occasionally offer a special event outside of these hours. We are looking to add to our kitchen leadership team. Currently the chef/kitchen manager duties are divided between the owners, our GM who is a chef, head line cook, and lead prep cooks.  However, we feel that someone is missing from our team.  Could it be you? Some of the job duties/requirements may include but are not limited to:
  • Prep and line cooking as well as helping to prepare catering jobs
  •  Prepare menu items, as well as mentor, train, and oversee cooks in the preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation to ensure quality and consistency. 
  •  Help to develop seasonal menus and specials. 
  •  Knowledge of menu recipe costing and associated computer skills. 
  • The desire to research and grow in this area of Mexican food preparation.  
  •  Make connections and maintain relationships with vendors, staff, and guests. 
  • Source and monitor ingredients, supplies, and equipment for the restaurant.  
  • Monitor sanitation practices to ensure that staff follows health and safety standards and regulations.
  • Help to facilitate equipment repair and maintenance
  • Recruit and hire qualified staff, such as cooks and dishwashers. 
  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule activities of cooks and other kitchen workers. 
  • Work with owners and GM to communicate with FOH staff about daily specials and other issues. Provide details about special menu features in a timely manner for marketing.
  • Be a team player and work together with the rest of the kitchen crew
  • Lead and inspire the kitchen staff, modeling a positive, pro customer service attitude.
