SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to quality control and assurance in the laboratory setting. They carry out routine tests and analyses on raw materials, intermediate products, and final food ingredients to ensure compliance with established specifications and industry standards.Laboratory Technicians at United Science operate and maintain various laboratory equipment, following standard operating procedures to conduct precise and accurate tests. They record and interpret data, promptly reporting any deviations or abnormalities to the Laboratory Manager. Collaborating with the broader quality control team, the Laboratory Technicians play a key role in identifying and resolving issues related to product quality, contributing to the overall assurance of safe and high-quality food ingredients produced by the company. Their attention to detail and adherence to protocols are crucial in upholding the company's commitment to delivering reliable and safe products to consumers.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Works closely with the Laboratory Manager and CMO Production Technicians on work orders and R&D projects as assigned.
  • Collaborates with the quality assurance (QA) personnel.
  • Sterilizes all equipment and keeps a safe and hygienic work environment.
  • Follows batch manufacturing records (BMR).
  • Weighs, measures, subdivides and dispenses components.
  • Labels new containers used during production.
  • Performs yield calculations after each phase.
  • Completes documentation, including logbooks and batch production and control records.
  • Utilizes spreadsheets for tasks such as organizing, analyzing, and presenting data accurately and efficiently.
  • Cleans tools and equipment after use.
  • Escalates any issues to management.
  • Complies with all Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) regulations and other company and industry policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • An associate degree or bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field is helpful.
  • Experience in a laboratory and clean room environment is helpful, however training is provided.
  • Proficient with spreadsheet applications, able to multitask and stay organized.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The job is performed indoors in a traditional laboratory setting. 
  • Exposure to chemicals and laboratory agents is expected. 
  • Protective safety clothing, goggles, gloves, facemasks, or hats are required as needed.
  • Activities include extended periods of sitting or standing and extensive work mixing chemicals, conducting experiments, and using laboratory equipment.
