Summary   The ideal candidate will be able to work as a Medical assistant with both Mohs and General Dermatology. Looking for Mohs Surgical Assistant to join our Mohs Surgery team. The position is responsible for assisting the Mohs surgeon during procedures as well as responsible for the scheduling and pre-certification of Mohs surgical procedures. Candidates should be detail-oriented and be able to provide superior care in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a pleasant and caring demeanor.The Medical Assistant's role is essential during the patient visit: rooming and greeting the patient, obtaining appropriate intake information, giving report to the dermatology provider on the patient, accompanying the dermatology provider in the room with the patient and scribing the information from the dermatology provider about the visit. The Medical Assistant also prepares for procedures and assists as necessary. Other duties of the medical assistant include, but are not limited to, drawing blood, suture removals, treating patients scheduled for phototherapy, sterilizing instruments, stocking exam rooms and addressing phone notes and prior authorizations as needed while promoting a friendly and efficient environment for patients, staff, and dermatologists. Essential Functions 1.    Rooms patients and documents all vital information prior to exam with provider such as:  a.    Chief complaintb.    Medical Historyc.     Family Historyd.    Social historye.    Review of systems 2.    Scribes all information for the provider regarding the patient encounter including but not limited to: a.    Physical examb.    Assessmentc.     Proceduresd.    Prescriptionse.    Consentsf.     Operative/ Pathology reportsg.    Letters sent back to PCP and / or referring providerh.    MIPS required documentation 3.    Obtains informed consents to patients prior to procedures  4.    Assist the providers with or under the supervision of the providers to perform the following procedures but not limited to: a.    Surgical photographsb.    Biopsies – punch, DIF, and shavec.     Excisionsd.    Mohs micrographic skin cancer surgery (if clinic performs MOHS)e.    Electrodessication and curettagef.     Phlebotomyg.    Phototherapy (if clinic is equipped)h.    Injectionsi.      Patch testingj.     Instrument sterilizationk.    Blue light (if clinic is equipped)l.      Patient educationm.   Schedules and coordinates patient appointments following company protocols, procedures, and physician schedule templates when applicable  5.    Must continually learn and be able to explain new and existing dermatological conditions. 6.    Opens sterile supplies and sets up for each procedure 7.    Assists Mohs surgeon during procedure according to prescribed standards. Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon including Biopsies – punch, DIF and shave, Excisions, Electrodessication and curettage, I&D, and Mohs micrographic skin cancer surgery 8.    Sets up procedure room, according to prescribed standards 9.    Dress and provide wound care instruction for the surgery site 10.  Takes appropriate photographs of Mohs stages. Label and organize photograph. 11.  Handles specimens for pathology according to prescribed standards 12.  Assist in procedure room maintenance, including case preparation, room turnover, and instrument processing 13.  Prepares the patient prior to the procedure; obtains and reconciles medical and surgical history, accurate list of medications and allergies. Documents appropriately in EMR 14.  Educate patients on treatment plans, expectations, and post-operative instructions 15.  Records required information on patient logs (pathology, biopsy, lab, temperature). 16.  Adherence to compliance and completion of compliance training. 17.  Performs other related duties as assigned. 18.  Sterilization and aseptic technique:
  • Demonstrated expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique and universal precautions
  • Knowledge of and ability to disinfect, clean and sterile surgical instruments, equipment and supplies
  • Knowledge of or experience in equipment, such as ultrasonic cleaner and autoclaves. Understand of the processes to maintain the autoclave
 OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Compiles and prepares surgical packs. Runs autoclave as needed
  • Assist with inventory and storage of equipment and supplies as well as cleaning the procedure rooms
  • Performs medical assistant duties as required for non-Mohs patients, as part of the dermatology practice.       i.e giving injections
  • Directly responsible for scheduling patients and manages the MOHS surgery schedule
  • Provides post procedure care including surgical dressing changes and assisting with suture removal
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of insurance and pre-certification requirements
  • Demonstrates customer service skills when communicating with peers/other departments
  • Logs surgical procedures as needed
  • Communicates problems to Physician/Supervisor/Management
  • Must have your own transportation and be willing to work in MOHS office locations
  • Performs various clerical duties including faxing, photocopying, scanning, filing and mailing's
  • Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned
  • Relay pathology and laboratory results to patients
