GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
 

 Evidence Based Supported Employment (EBSE), also known as Individual Placement Support (IPS), or Employment Specialist is a core component of recovery for adults with a severe mental illness. The intent of the program is to ensure that adults with a severe mental illness achieve and maintain desired community-based employment that pays at least minimum wage, while performing the same work alongside others without psychiatric disabilities, to increase self-sufficiency and decrease dependence on public systems of care. The Employment Specialist provides support and guidance to individuals to discover and enhance their strengths and ensure their success in employment positions. Assists individuals enrolled in the EBSE program, in obtaining and maintaining employment that is consistent with their vocational goals and recovery. The Employment Specialist should exhibit an ability to coach, teach and motivate others.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications represent the organization in a highly professional manner.
  • Develops relationships with community organizations willing to support positions for EBSE participants; provides continuous follow-up regarding employee job performance.
  • Assists individuals in creating a resume that outlines their skills, abilities, and accomplishments; supports individuals in job development and job search activities consistent with their needs and interests.
  • Collaborates with clients to create individualized job coaching and employment plans; assesses vocational functioning on an ongoing basis utilizing background information and work experiences.
  • Provides employment support and time-unlimited follow along services to individuals to promote successful employment efforts.
  • Provides energetic engagement to clients and outreach services as necessary to clients who have disengaged from services.
  • Provides education and support to employer(s), as agreed upon by the client, including but not limited to, negotiating job accommodation.
  • Participates in a multidisciplinary care team, coordinating vocational services into Individual Plan(s) of Service; completes an updated vocational service plan at least quarterly.
  • Contributes to the integration of services inclusive of primary care, behavior health, dental services, and supportive housing; serves as a resource to other providers and staff.
  • Ensures that clinical documentation regarding clients is timely and kept secure and confidential consistent with    CCH, HIPAA and CMH policies and procedures.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Leader or as indicated by program or grant/funding source.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must meet ONE of the following:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a human services field with two (2) years of related experience required
  • Must possess and maintain a current Michigan LBSW/LLBSW. Candidates who do not have a LBSW/LLBSW may still apply but must acquire within the Michigan licensing board guidelines. 
  • Michigan Certification as a Peer Support Specialist required.
  • Associate’s degree preferred but not required with at least a minimum of 1-year applicable experience.
  • Outcome-driven, problem solving, team focused, partnership builders with strong interpersonal skills and other relevant qualities to advance individual competitive integrated employment in the local community.

Additional Requirements include the following:

  • Current Michigan Chauffeur’s Driver’s License required; Candidates who do not have a chauffeur's license, may still apply but must acquire a chauffeur’s license within 30 days of employment.
  •  Experience in job seeking skills instruction, job placement, and job development in supportive and non-supportive employment settings.
  •  Experience in placing individuals with special needs or multiple socioeconomic barriers.
  •  Experience working with members exhibiting severe and persistent mental illness.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to State of Michigan driving laws, evidenced by maintaining an insurable driving record in accordance with CCH commercial auto insurance carrier required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and others involved in the delivery of services to members and their families.
  • Must be comfortable with community outreach.
