Your main duty is to assist in the care of patients during their visit by preparing them to see the physician. You must be able to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively with others. You must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, physicians, administrators, leadership, and coworkers. The technician job title is further divided into three main roles: Workup Technician, Photographer, and Scribe.

Work-up Technician:Gather chief complaints and PHI from the patient and transfer them into EMR. Check visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and visual field. Assessment of pupils; equality and reaction prior to dilation. Administer drops as required. Prepare the patient for certain procedures as scheduled.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal customer service skills, including effective listening, clear verbal and written communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliable transportation to travel to practice locations – not just 1 location.
  • Ability to master multiple software systems to input and retrieve data.
  • Ability to master ophthalmology and retina terminology.
