Pennington, NJ location: Blue Moon Acres is seeking a full-time farm worker at our Pennington, NJ farm. Crops/Commodities: Organic crops including but not limited to vegetables, micro greens, edible/cut flowers, ginger, and herbs.

Overview:
This position offers experience with small-scale, diversified, organic farming and the opportunity to develop skills in greenhouse production, season extension, pest and weed management, planting, and harvesting. We are seeking positive-thinking, hardworking, eager-to-learn applicants who can work at a fast pace. We start the season in growing baby head lettuces and move into full field production in May. A typical day on the farm includes harvesting, washing, packing, and ensuring top-quality products for our restaurant and gourmet food store customers.

• This is a year-round position.
• Pay: $17.20/hr.
• There is the ability to take home some farm produce in line with ample production levels.

Job Duties: 

• Jobs offered are working on a diversified organic crop farm performing both manual and mechanized tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities. 
• Workers must be able to perform manual and mechanized tasks with accuracy and efficiency. 
• Prepare fields/soil for planting. Remove cull stock, debris, tree stumps, brush, ferns, vines, and other growth from the planting area using a tractor or hand tools. 
• Plant, cultivate, and harvest vegetables using hand tools including, but not limited to: shovels, hoes, hand snips, and knives. Plant roots, seeds, and bulbs. 
• Spread plastic or other ground covering. Clean plastic by hand from the ground upon removal. Till soil. 
• Weed and thin plants. Transplant plants by hand or using a mechanical transplanter. 
• Stake/tie plants, trellis/prune plants, and set poles and wires for vine plants. Pick, cut, lift, or pull crops by hand or using a harvesting machine. Tie vegetables in bunches. Grade, size, and field pack product. 
• Take care to prevent damaging produce and plants. 
• Apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and other crop protectants. 
• Mix and apply fertilizers, plant growth chemicals, conditioners, and other plant-related treatments at the correct times depending on plant type, growth, climate, and crop conditions. 
• Cultivate, sort, and pack potatoes. 
• Weed fields by hand or with a hoe. Sort potatoes on the conveyor belt, removing the damaged potatoes and foreign materials by hand. 
• Maintained a clean working environment, shoveling dirt and other debris from the work area. 
• Perform manual and machine tasks associated with grain and hay crop production, including but not limited to disking; aerating; seeding (using mechanical drills and seeders); and stacking hay. 
• Plant, maintain, harvest, husk, and pack rice. 
• Plant rice transplants by hand or using a transplanter. Harvest with rice harvester into drying bins; husk using rice husker and pack into bags. Plant, cultivate, and maintain nursery plants. Pot seedlings. 
• Attach hangers to baskets and hang them throughout seasonal holding houses. 
• Must understand nursery quality control standards and have a working knowledge of production procedures. 
• Must harvest crops according to specific standards. 
• Plant, cultivate, harvest, and pack cut flowers. 
• Work in fields and greenhouses. 
• Move harvested flowers to the barn and greenhouse and place flowers into the cooler. 
• Pull cut flowers out of cooler, bundle, wrap, and re-pack. Lay fabric. 
• Pull up and put away the drip line after harvest. All crops: record harvest location and weight on the clipboard. Move harvested crops into coolers or storage. 
• Work on the production line. Wash, grade, size, sort, and pack product. 
• Bunch/bundle product pursuant to supervisor instructions. 
• Fill bins/trays and other containers with the product, level bins, and prepare the product for shipment to market or storage. 
• Perform quality control on inbound/outbound loads. 
• Follow quality control standards and production procedures. Handle the product carefully to prevent damage.
•  Lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies. 
• Palletize and stack boxes/containers. Use power equipment including, but not limited, to: forklifts, conveyor belts, and cooling equipment/refrigeration units. 
• Operate equipment safely, with or without direction. 
• Assist with regular maintenance of equipment. 
• Clean/sanitize workstations and equipment. 
• Clean/organize seed/harvest tools/storage areas. 
• Conduct inventory counts. 
• Mow, cut, and weed fields. 
• Perform ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other manual tasks. 
• Bending, stooping, and kneeling are required. 
• Use hand tools including but not limited to hoes, shovels, shears, clippers, loppers, and saws. 
• Clear debris from the field and clean/maintain farm buildings, structures, equipment, and work areas. 
• Assist with farm building/field maintenance and repairs. 
• Build/repair fences.
