Maintenance Technician

Purpose: Perform work involving basic maintenance, painting and room set-ups/ break-downs.

Education and Experience:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Moderate-term on-the-job training.

Knowledge and Tasks:
Mechanical:
  • Knowledge of tools.
  • Basic working knowledge of electric- switches, outlets, controls, ballasts, etc.
  • Basic working knowledge of plumbing- faucets, values, drain pipes, toilets, sinks, etc.
  • Drywall- patching and painting.
  • Ceiling tile work.
  • Ability to operate pressure cleaner and similar equipment.
  • Ability to maintain a safe work environment and keep workspaces tidy and clean.
  • All general maintenance items as assigned.

Basic Skills:
  • Painting.
  • Basic mechanical and handy person skills.
  • May be asked to cover in other departments around the campus as needed.
  • The ability to lift, set up, takedown, stack, and move carts of tables and chairs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Communication:
  • Requires contact with others. (face-to-face, by telephone, or otherwise)
  • Requires face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams.
  • Requires telephone conversations.
  • Speaking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate.
  • Ability to speak, and communicate effectively in English; includes the ability to read directions, and understand verbal instructions.
  • The ability to speak other languages is a plus.

Schedule:
  • The position of General Maintenance Associate requires flexibility in schedule. 
  • Evening and weekend hours will be required.

  • Work in bent, twisted or awkward work posture and stand for more than two hours in a row.
  • Must be able to lift, bend, and/or reach, including with outstretched arms and overhead.
  • Must be able to use hands to lift and clean items; reach with hands and arms: and talk and hear.
  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Do repetitive movements with hands and/or wrists.
  • Standing or walking for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, squat, and/or work in other awkward work positions.
  • Climb, balance, stoop, kneel/crouch, and crawl.
  • Must be able to use, carry, and work on ladders.
  • Must be able to use, move, and work on lifts.

Environment:
  • Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
  • Requires working in cramped workspaces and getting into awkward positions.
  • It May require working with noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
  • The ability to walk distances and be on your feet for multiple hours at a time.
  • Requires working outdoors in non-controlled environmental conditions.
  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
  • Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people.

Potential Job Hazards:
The General Maintenance Associate position requires working under conditions, with equipment and items that can be hazardous

Work Environment:
The work will be done indoors and outdoors, during the day, evenings and weekends, as scheduled and in moderate to loud environments.
