HVAC Estimator

- Reads & accurately interprets scale drawings, construction specifications, textual scope of work descriptions for the mechanical disciplines as well as architectural & structural as affecting the mechanical scopes of work.
- Performs quantity survey of materials shown or reasonably inferred on the construction documents & specifications.
- Applies items of quantity survey to established labor metrics and adjusts for anticipated field conditions derived from the interpretation of project documentation and / or pre-estimating surveys (performed by others).
- Identifies requirements for subcontractors and/or vendors on the project and solicits those parties’ participation.
- Coordinates with vendors & subcontractors to ensure their scope of work proposals are accurate to the project requirements and consistent among multiple offerors of the same goods & services.
- Gathers and assembles all data for the cost estimate using established processes & procedures ensuring an accurate valuation of expected costs. Including but not limited to: Materials, labor, equipment rental, vendor provided items and subcontractor proposals.
- Clearly communicate items of work identified and included in the cost estimate to the Sales team and executive management as required.
- Performs other related duties and projects as assigned by management.
Required Education/Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent. Degree in engineering or construction management a plus.
- Journeyman level mechanical construction experience preferred.
- Four to six (4-6) years of experience as Construction Estimator, Construction Coordinator or Project Manager or in a related area.
Competencies:
- Extensive knowledge of Refrigeration, HVAC & EMCS systems and installation.
- Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Demonstrated superior judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Able to effectively manage multiple and competing priorities and projects under tight timeframes.
- Strong working knowledge of use of the Microsoft suite of applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Excellent organization skills.
- Ability to understand complex problems and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions.
- Ability to understand opposing points of view on highly complex issues and to negotiate and integrate different viewpoints
- Ability to interact with all levels of management.
- Ability to make decisions that have significant impact on the department’s credibility, operations, and services
- Ability to organize and prioritize work schedule on a short and long-term basis.
- Ability to travel up to 10%.
- Exceptional specialty trade experience in one of the three basic fields of mechanical construction focus- Refrigeration, HVAC or EMCS (Energy Management /Controls Systems).
- Skill in using automated, on-screen takeoff / estimating software (ie-PlanSwift, Quickpen, QuoteSoft, STACK)
- High level skill in Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with basic mechanical system design practices.
- Understands the need for integrity and demonstrates awareness of ethical implications in all situations.
