About the Technician/Optician Position:Our new Technician/Optician will be a welcome addition to our team and family who is both personable and welcoming to our patients. A passion for eyecare and general patient health is essential to providing the best experience we can

Ideally, the Technician/Optician will have three (3) or more years’ experience in the optical industry. Preference is in either an optical store, optometry or ophthalmology office.

The candidate’s characteristics should include:

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Providing a high-level customer experience.
• Maintaining a calm and pleasant demeanor with every patient,
• A smooth patient transition from waiting room to exam room to optical.
• Ability to complete pre-testing procedures:
  • Intake Questions: medical history, family history, medications/allergies, chief complaint.
  • Pre-Testing: autorefractor, OCT, visual field, topography, visual acuity, lensometry, Icare tonometer, confrontation fields, EOMs, cover test.
• Contact lens training and education.
• Ability to interpret and reiterate doctor recommendations.
• Complete full-frame selection from the proper fitting of the frame to patient life-style needs including lens selection, lens coatings, etc.
• Greeting patients and managing office flow.
• Frame repairs, adjustments, eyeglass inspection, trouble-shooting, and dispensing.
• Accurately calculate insurance co-pays and overages based on vision insurance (VSP, EyeMed, Superior Vision, etc.) and explaining fees to patients effectively.
• Authorizing and billing insurance claims.
• Verify glasses prescription and notification to the patient for dispensing.
• Answering phones, scheduling appointments.

Office hours are Monday through Friday from 10 am to 7 pm and Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. The Technician/Optician position will be required to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Compensation/Benefits:We reward our staff well with competitive salaries (commensurate with experience), $18 to $21 per hour, including: 

• Employer pays two-weeks of Personal Time Off (PTO), annually.
• Employer pays 3% of employee earnings into a 401(k)-retirement plan.
• Employer provides Vision Care to employees and eligible family members.
