Tehachapi Cement, LLC is seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Outage Planner to manage the coordination and execution of plant outages and significant repairs. In this vital role, you will work closely with various departments to optimize resource allocation, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and enhance equipment reliability and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:
  • Work Schedule Development: Collaborate with production and other departments to develop detailed work schedules for upcoming plant outages, acting as the primary liaison between departments to ensure optimal coordination.
  • Shutdown Planning: Manage the step-by-step execution of all plant outages and significant repairs, utilizing project-planning techniques and software for efficient and timely completion.
  • Inspection & Safety Compliance: Ensure that all regulated inspections are completed within set guidelines, maximizing safety and minimizing downtime. Conduct crew safety meetings and necessary inspections to ensure adherence to MSHA/OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Parts Management: Collaborate with the stores department to guarantee the availability of parts for upcoming shutdowns, overseeing the ordering, receiving, and purchasing of necessary materials, and selecting suppliers to maintain schedules.
  • Documentation & Record Keeping: Develop and maintain comprehensive files, including equipment lists, supplier details, maintenance manuals, purchase orders, drawings, checklists, spare parts lists, corrective maintenance details, and departmental performance records.
  • Planning Meetings: Attend planning meetings to recommend necessary repairs based on feedback from production and other departments.
  • Cost Management: Review maintenance costs and identify areas where savings can be achieved to reduce overall maintenance costs.
  • Continuous Improvement: Develop, maintain, and coordinate Plus/Delta meetings post-outage to gather feedback and optimize future outages.
  • Inventory Management: Assist the stores department in controlling and reducing equipment inventory by reviewing maximums/minimums, reordering parts, and identifying obsolete parts.
  • Budget & Long-Term Planning: Assist Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance Managers in preparing the annual maintenance budget and developing long-term goals to meet overall plant operational and cost containment targets.
  • On-Call Support: Provide ongoing maintenance support to the plant for all shifts by participating in the plant’s on-call program, which may involve evaluating and resolving maintenance issues after hours and on weekends.
  • PTO Relief: Provide PTO relief for the Daily Planning function.
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) Maintenance: Ensure that the Bill of Materials (BOM) records are up-to-date and accurate.
  • Other Duties: Perform job walks, recommend repairs, and assist in other areas of the maintenance function as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Education: High school diploma or GED is required. A bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering is strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in a cement plant, lime, or mining environment. Heavy industrial maintenance experience is required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and SAP. Strong knowledge of maintenance management systems, safety regulations, and preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance practices.
  • Leadership & Communication: Ability to lead and manage teams effectively. Strong communication and collaboration skills for coordinating with multiple departments.
  • Safety-Oriented: Knowledge of MSHA/OSHA regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
