Direct Support Professional

The mission of Outside the Lines is to provide individuals with developmental disabilities with the tools and materials to create art and the supports to define themselves as artists.
We are looking for individuals interested in working part-time, and full-time at our arts based community day program as a Direct Support Professional (DSP).The mission of Resources for Human Development (RHD) is to provide caring, effective and innovative services that empower people of all abilities as they build better lives for themselves, their families and their communities. RHD’s multi-faceted programs serve people with a variety of challenges that include intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness, substance abuse and homelessness.
Resources for Human Development (RHD) is now hiring Direct Care Professionals, with a $1,000 sign on bonus
Responsibilities:
- The Direct Support Professional works with artists with a range of disabilities, in particular people whose challenging behaviors or health issues make them poor fits with more traditional day services.
- The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for:
ADMINISTRATIVE:
- Attends and participates in meetings and training related to the services provided in the program (inlcuding but not limited to team meetings, ISP meetings, and administrative meetings).
- Ensures program documentation (data sheets, shift notes, etc. ) are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Prepares ISP materials for submission to supervisor (monthly progress notes, assessments assigned by supervisor)
- Monitors and documents funds present in the home. (client funds, petty cash)
- Orders Medication for the program and ensures an adequate supply of medication is on-hand at all times.
- Communicates medical information and follow-up.
- Uses cell phone (company or personal with stipend) to respond to calls (staff, supervisors, doctors, families, DDS, etc.)
- Ensures staff recieve regular trainings in fire safety and human rights.
- Reads and answers emails in a timely manner.
INDIVIDUAL SERVICES:
- Provide direct support to individuals in the program (including personal care and behavioral support)
- Teach and assist in classes and activities designed to address the needs and objectives of participants.
- Follow clinical programs as outlined in individual’s service plans, and take data as required.
- Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with individuals of the day program.
- Help participants maintain connections with the community by facilitating field trips, and developing community programing.
- Maintain open communication with co-workers, case managers, and the management team.
- Ensure that everyone is treated with dignity and respect as an advocate for their human rights.
TRAINING:
- Participates in regularly scheduled team meetings.
- Attends all assigned trainings. (in person and online in the Cornerstone system)
PROGRAM SITE:
- Ensures that programs are clean and safe, reports any safety issues to appropriate supervisors (Floor Manger/Unit Director/Residential Director)
- Ensures the necessary program supplies are present (art supplies, food, cleaning materials, materials needed for ISP goals etc.)
DOCUMENTATION:
- Accurately records all data related to ISP goals.
- Records all necessary medical/medication information.
- Other duties, as assigned.
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for supporting individuals to lead productive lives as members of their local communities as independently as possible.
DSPs support individuals by:
- Assisting with activities of daily living.
- Assisting with the development and implementation of goals set in the individuals’ ISP.
- Ensuring that all safety protocols are implemented within the home and community.
- Ensuring all medical protocols and treatments are followed.
- Participating as a member of the program’s team working with clinical and management staff.
Experience:
We are Hiring Dynamic Team Members Who:
- Are dedicated to enriching and improving the lives of others.
- Have a valid driver’s license.
- Have basic computer and internet literacy with the ability to utilize applications like emails, time recording and other programs to enter and retrieve data as necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED is preferred; for international students, secondary education is preferred but not required.
- Prior experience in the Human Services field is preferred but not required.
- Must have current First Aid Certification.
- Must have CPR certification within one month of hire.
- Must complete Medication Administration certification within three months of hire.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Required Qualifications:
- Must have current First Aid Certification.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Required to complete CPR certification within one month of hire.
- Experience with art or arts programs preferred.
