Position Highlights:
  • To provide spiritual care to patients, families, visitors and staff, regardless of faith tradition or lack thereof.
  • To be a resource and liaison for local clergy, community faith groups and community civic groups.
  • To implement all aspects of chaplaincy care and education at Moffitt Cancer Center, Moffitt at International Plaza, McKinley and other Moffitt locations not named.
  • To work collaboratively with members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • To communicate accurately, clearly and in a timely manner, both verbally and in written materials.
  • To enter electronic documentation of all patient interactions into the electronic health record.
  • To record daily work into the Pastoral Care Activity Reporting System (PCARS).
  • To perform duties of on-call after hours, on weekends and holidays when scheduled.

The Ideal Candidate
  • The ideal candidate will have the following:
    • Four (4) or more units of CPE
    • Ordination or equivalent from faith group;
    • Master’s Degree in Theology (Divinity)
    • 2 or more years’ experience in a setting such as, but not limited to, hospital, hospice, long-term care facility; religious institution, center of worship

Responsibilities:
  • Provide Spiritual Assessment and counseling to patients, families and staff..
  • Support patients' rights by considering psychosocial, spiritual and cultural variables influencing perceptions of illness.
  • Triage requests for the priest and contact the priest in emergency situations; make referrals to the priest for non-emergencies..
  • Provide grief de-briefing and similar de-briefing for individuals and/or groups as appropriate; collaborate with Human Resources to provide support for staff in tragic situations involving staff and/or patients.
  • Enter daily statistics into Pastoral Care Activity Accounting System(PCARS) and participate in Quality Improvement(QI) activities in the Department of Chaplaincy Care
  • Assist patients, family members and staff with Advance Care Planning and communicate patients' wishes to the interdisciplinary team.

Credentials and Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Theology (Divinity)
  • Ordination or equivalent from faith group
  • Minimum four (4) unit of CPE
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a setting such as, but not limited to, hospital, hospice, long-term care facility; religious institution, center of worship
  • Evidence of understanding of diverse populations
