R&D Maintenance Services, Inc. provides operations and maintenance services on U.S Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects throughout the southeast - since 1980. We are the Operations and Maintenance Contractor for the Black Warrior-Tombigbee Waterway Project providing machinery and facility maintenance and repair on nearly 200 miles of waterway and 9 locks/dams/spillways on the system. Position is based in Demopolis, AL. R&D is an EEO Employer.
NATURE OF WORK:
This is a supervisory position responsible for operation, maintenance, repair, refurbishment, and construction of project facilities and infrastructure at the Black Warrior and Tombigbee River System and the Alabama River Locks and Dams Project. Responsibilities include supervision of personnel, planning, equipment, scheduling, and other items necessary to keep the project facilities operational. The Supervisor organizes, directs, plans, and coordinates groups of skilled, and semi-skilled employees. The work involves locks, buildings, structures, utilities, paved and unpaved roads, mechanical, electrical, water supply, recreation areas, sewage disposal systems, buoys, fences, etc. The Supervisor’s work is done with considerable independence and under the general direction of the area Superintendent. The work is reviewed through the observation of results obtained, inspections, and periodic reports and evaluations by the Quality Control team and the Project Manager.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS:
- Supervises, assigns, coordinates, and directs the work of skilled and semi-skilled employees engaged in the maintenance, repair, and construction of project facilities and infrastructure.
- Reviews plans for facility repairs and construction.
- Responsible for coordinating multiple work areas.
- Responsible for maintaining safe work performance and conveying safe work procedures to employees under supervision. Enforces provisions of EM 385-1-1.
- Maintains neat, complete and accessible records, including work orders, following established procedures.
- Maintains business contacts with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Determines and orders or requisitions materials and equipment to facilitate repairs.
- Writes performance evaluations; handles employee complaints and grievances.
- Responsible for ensuring safety procedures are followed.
- Makes recommendations on hiring and termination of employees.
- Performs related work as assigned or required.
- Keeps the area Superintendent informed on status of all ongoing work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions pertaining to work operations.
- Knowledge of the materials, methods, practices and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of project facilities.
- Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of personnel.
- Knowledge of human resource management.
- Knowledge of basic office computer software (MS Office).
- Thorough knowledge of EM 385-1-1 Safety Manual.
- Ability to simultaneously manage multiple simple to complex maintenance procedures.
- Ability to make detailed technical inspections.
- Ability to diagnose, locate and correct problems.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with employees, and superiors.
- Ability to read and interpret a variety of blueprints, schematics, drawings, plans and specifications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have five (5) years progressively responsible management level experience in general construction, maintenance or related fields.
- Familiarity with EM 385-1-1, safety programs, applicable OSHA regulations, and the ability to interpret the various sections applicable to work requirements of the contract.
- Experience in supervising employees involved in a project for a government agency, preferably the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
- High School Diploma and applicable technical or administrative training.
- At least five (5) years experience supervising personnel.
- Valid driver’s license. Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screen, have a clean driving record, and be able to pass a Federal Tier 1 background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Occasionally lifts/carries/pulls from 20 to 50 pounds.
- Occasional climbing of ladders and working at heights.
- Occasional working around water and below normal water elevations retained by temporary structures.
- Frequent walking, standing, balancing, kneeling, bending, handling, feeling, climbing, smelling and twisting; occasional crawling and reaching; occasional working in cramped and confined spaces.
- Vision, speech and hearing sufficient to perform essential tasks.
