Summary:The Civil Engineer Technician is the principal point person for all The Lawman Groups private side, commercial and industrial design/build projects.  This person is responsible for all site/civil drafting of ground (horizontal) level plans.  They are also responsible for the municipal site approval process and consultation with the designated licensed engineer to obtain all regulatory approvals.  Essential duties include but are not limited to:
  • Consults with designated licensed engineer for plan approval/adjustment, ultimately leading to an engineer stamp and approval of the project requirements.
  • Must possess knowledge of requirements for site grading, stormwater removal processes, integrating utilities (electric, gas, water, & sewer), and general site improvement knowledge such as landscaping, parking areas, curbing, etc.
  • Work closely with municipal authorities to understand the processes for approval for each individual municipality. 
  • Conduct presentations and approval briefing to municipal boards.
  • Coordinate with licensed surveyors for each project.
  • Build engineer study of the project area and prepare study with licensed engineer.
  • Prepare and process the State Environmental Quality Report (SEQR) for each project.
  • Obtain regulatory requirements for each project at the state, county, and local level, as needed.
  • Upon approval, develops working site-civil construction drawings for each project.
  • Uses computer-aided drafting (CAD) software to create full-scale and detailed designs. 
  • Studies building codes and zoning regulations and determines how they will affect civil designs.
  • Visits jobsites to gather data needed to complete designs.
  • Attends client meetings to assist in creation of site/civil designs to meet client expectations. 
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet hard deadlines for the client, municipality, and supervisor. 
 Competencies: 
  • Ability to work from blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications.
  • Numeracy skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Extensive knowledge of CAD software and other architectural drafting tools.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication skills, and experience in public speaking.
  • Library oriented.  Ability to build, detail, and categorize components of CAD library to contribute to the success of the team.
  • Ability to quickly understand municipal regulations.
  • Ability to research governmental doctrine with minimal guidance or supervision.
 Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibility.    Work Environment: This position operates from various jobsite locations and offices.   Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • Prolonged periods of standing on hard surfaces.
  • Ability to bend, climb, pull, push, balance, kneel, twist, and climb stairs.
 Position Type/ Hours:The expected hours of work for this position are 8:00 am -5:00 pm, with the ability to work overtime as needed.  Hours may vary to be project specific and dependent upon job site location.  Travel Requirements: Minimal travel may be necessary.  A valid driver’s license is required for this role. Preferred Education and Experience: 
  • Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field required.
  • 5 years of related experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD.
 Preferred Additional Qualifications: 
  • Familiarity with the site plan application and approval process.
  • Experience working with various municipalities and understanding governmental processes.
