Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department.
- Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements.
- Serve as lead on the quarterly closing of the general ledger, review of journal entries, general ledger account reconciliations.
- Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles; improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
- Review account receivable (AR) billing for proper job code allocation; resolve accounting issues (revenue and expenses) for each active project.
- Review and approve accounts payable (AP) transactions to ensure timely completion of the AP cycle, including check runs, timely vendor payments, etc.
- Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions for annual audit; respond to requests from external Independent Auditors (General Liability and Workers Comp).
- Monitor running balances of bank accounts to prevent overdraft; transfer funds among accounts to meet payments for vendor invoices and payroll as needed; request stop payment and maintain void check log.
- Ensure that payments for reimbursable operational expenses are properly coded to matching revenue accounts.
- Support Project Management and Contracts teams to ensure deliverables are met.
- Prepare reports for CEO and AVP-Operations, clients, and outside agencies as requested.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required, advanced degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 6-8 years of accounting experience; preferably combined with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role.
- The CCIFP certification (Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional) is highly recommended
- Understanding of Construction Accounting [especially the WIP Schedule – (Work In Progress)] and ability to review the AIA and reconcile payment breakdowns are strongly required.
- Knowledge and experience with standard accounting software packages, specifically Sage 50 (formerly Peachtree) is
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrates the highest level of customer/client service and response.
- Computer literacy including advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel (Pivot tables, VLookUp…etc.) is a prerequisite for the position, and experience with.
- Proven knowledge of high-level accounting (principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations).
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to think critically (perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly) with excellent attention to detail.
- Expert level written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly resourceful team-player with the ability to work independently as well.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be fluent in English (both written and spoken).
- Experience working with government agency contractual procedures is highly recommended.
