About the Role:

We are seeking an Engineering Manager with a strong focus on product leadership who has an unwavering passion for building impactful products in the AI space. This role demands someone with a background as an exceptional individual contributor who naturally grew into a leadership position because of their technical expertise and ability to inspire others. You will lead a team that includes infrastructure, frontend, backend, and AI engineers, working primarily with large language models (LLMs). You will be a hands-on leader, guiding the technical direction, product strategy, and growth of the team while fostering an environment of creativity, ownership, and engineering excellence.

You will bring a strong philosophy of excellence, user-centricity, and uncompromising standards. You know that great products come from attention to detail, relentless iteration, and the belief that technology should work seamlessly to improve people's lives. You have a natural drive for simplicity and elegance in design, pushing for products that are not only functional but delightful to use. Your leadership is built on earned respect and influence, not hierarchical power. You see engineering as a craft, and you mentor your team to see it the same way.

Responsibilities:

A day in the life of an Engineering Manager at G-P involves taking complete ownership of the product vision while providing technical leadership across the stack. You will lead your team in the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge AI-powered products. You’ll collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to prioritize features that will deliver the most impact to users. You will act as the glue between multiple disciplines, helping guide architectural decisions, reviewing code, and fostering a culture of high standards and technical excellence.

Beyond technical management, you will spend a portion of your time in the codebase — helping debug critical issues, prototyping new features, or solving particularly challenging problems. You lead by example, demonstrating an eye for detail, a passion for exceptional user experiences, and a focus on making high-quality products. Your primary mission is to empower your team, helping each member to grow and achieve their best work, while pushing for product outcomes that challenge the status quo.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead and Inspire: Provide visionary product and technical leadership. Drive product development from concept to delivery, ensuring alignment with the company's vision and user needs. Inspire the team to go beyond what they thought was possible.
  • Technical Guidance: Ensure the team follows best engineering practices, making architectural decisions, and stepping in to help tackle challenging technical issues when necessary.
  • Product Ownership: Take ownership of end-to-end product outcomes. Partner with Product Managers to prioritize features, balancing business goals, user needs, and technical feasibility.
  • Hands-On Contribution: Spend time in the codebase, whether that means helping debug issues, prototyping concepts, or ensuring the integrity of the architecture. Lead by example with a hands-on approach to solving hard technical problems.
  • Team Building and Mentorship: Hire, mentor, and coach engineers. Empower the team, helping to build their technical skills and product-minded thinking. Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and excellence.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other teams—product, design, infrastructure, AI—to ensure cohesive execution and the delivery of impactful features.
  • Eye for Design: Collaborate with designers to ensure a seamless, intuitive, and beautiful user experience. Advocate for clean, simple, and elegant design principles that enhance usability.
  • Bias for Action: Maintain momentum and a fast pace for the team. Drive effective decision-making processes and ensure roadblocks are quickly addressed.
  • User Focus: Advocate for the user in all decisions, ensuring that every feature shipped improves the user experience and contributes to the product’s vision.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Engineering Expertise: Proven experience as a high-performing individual contributor in engineering, with hands-on technical skills in backend, frontend, infrastructure, or AI development. Experience with technologies such as: Python, React, Docker, AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, Serverless Frameworks (e.g., AWS Lambda), CI/CD Tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI), Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform or CloudFormation, or LLM frameworks is required.
  • Natural Leader: You have moved into management because your technical influence and natural leadership made you the best person to lead others, not because you sought a management title. You still see yourself as an engineer at heart.
  • Product-Driven: Ability to take full ownership of product outcomes. Experience working closely with Product Managers, translating user needs into features, and driving end-to-end delivery.
  • Hands-On Problem Solving: Willing to get your hands dirty to help solve problems, prototype ideas, or debug production issues. You lead through doing.
  • Team Empowerment: Skilled at building and growing high-performance engineering teams, focusing on mentorship, skill development, and helping individuals reach their potential.
  • Technical Breadth: Experience across the full stack, with deep knowledge of scalable backend architectures, cloud infrastructure, and AI/ML workflows. Proficiency with AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda), container orchestration tools like Kubernetes, infrastructure automation using Terraform, and experience setting up robust CI/CD pipelines. Comfort with large language models and AI-driven products.
  • Eye for Design: Strong understanding of what makes an excellent user experience, and the ability to work effectively with designers to build delightful, user-friendly products.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communicator who can clearly articulate product vision, technical concepts, and inspire the team to perform at their best.
  • Ethics and Integrity: Upholds the highest standards of integrity, ensuring trust and transparency within the team and across the organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Product Management Background: Experience or interest in product management, with the ability to make product-driven decisions and balance user and technical considerations.
  • Startup Experience: Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment where adaptability, grit, and bias toward action are highly valued.

Why G-P?

If you’re an engineer at heart who just happens to lead, if you believe in empowering teams to do their best work, and if you are excited about building AI products that change the way people work globally, G-P is the place for you. Join us in our mission to create seamless global opportunities, and lead a team that values craftsmanship, integrity, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
