Position Summary:

As a Traveling Project Field Engineer, you will be responsible for troubleshooting, testing, and inspecting electrical power distribution systems. You will act as the lead on projects, utilizing your expertise to ensure the safe and efficient execution of tasks. This role requires a combination of technical know-how, leadership skills, and the ability to travel extensively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Power Distribution System Maintenance & Testing: Perform testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical power systems, including low and medium voltage switchgear through the 15 kV class.
  • Technical Leadership: Lead project teams, providing technical direction and overseeing the completion of complex projects.
  • System Analysis: Troubleshoot electrical systems, perform relay calibration, and use load recording instrumentation.
  • Report Writing: Write detailed, accurate reports for clients at the end of each project, documenting findings and billing.
  • Business Development: Contribute to business growth through involvement in proposal development, estimating man-hours, expenses, and project scope.
  • Client Interaction: Develop strong relationships with clients, ensuring high-quality service and clear communication.
  • Travel Flexibility: Travel to job sites across North America and internationally, with assignments lasting 6-12 months.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), or
    • Graduate of an Electrical Technical School/Military equivalent with 3 years of experience, or
    • High school diploma with 4 years of similar fieldwork experience.
  • Certifications:

    • NETA Certification (National Electrical Testing Association) preferred.
  • Experience:

    • Strong experience in switchgear testing (up to 15 kV).
    • Experience with relay calibration, power metering, and fault current calculations.
    • Knowledge of electrical power systems, the National Electrical Code, and industry standards (OSHA, NFPA).
    • Previous leadership roles and project management experience are a plus.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel for report writing and project documentation.
    • Familiarity with computer-controlled test equipment and internet-based research tools.
  • Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. and perform physical tasks such as climbing, bending, kneeling, and standing for long periods.
    • Ability to work in extreme environmental conditions, such as hot or cold weather and noisy environments.
  • Other Requirements:

    • Valid driver's license.
    • Must be willing to travel 80-90% of the time across North America and internationally.
    • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test, background check, and motor vehicle records check.

Travel & Work Schedule:

  • Expect extensive travel across North America, with an average schedule of 4-6 weeks on the road followed by 1-2 weeks at your home base.
  • Projects typically last 6-12 months, with the potential for ongoing work at various sites.
  • Flexible work options during downtime, including PTO, regional work, and "home office " assignments.
