About the Role

Special Children’s Charities (SCC) is seeking a Senior Manager of Finance to manage and oversee the organization’s fiscal and accounting operations. This is an opportunity for a detail-oriented finance leader who will actively manage and support the team with budgets, accounting and administrative oversight in service of the organization’s mission to support individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.


The Senior Manager of Finance will report to the Executive Director and will liaise with the Board’s Treasurer and Finance Committee. This role is the sole accounting/finance professional at SCC.


What You'll Do

Finance & Accounting Leadership - 80%

  • Maintain SCC’s general ledger  in QuickBooks Online; including: Manage and process accounts payable, manage all expense allocations for programs and grants; and manage accounts receivable Analyze and understand SCC’s financial performance including producing reports, dashboards and analyses
  • Manage the annual operating budget that reflects the needs of departments, programs and events to ensure that they have necessary resources; Collaborate with department leaders on budget management
  • Oversee donor tax acknowledgement letters
  • Process bi-weekly payroll, ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal law
  • Support benefits administration in collaboration with external broker and ED
  • Collaborate with Board finance committee and Board Treasurer
  • Support and collaborate with other staff from a fiscal standpoint to plan major fundraising campaigns and associated events
  • Manage Qgiv platform for fundraising events; utilize data analyses and reporting function 
  • Maintain positive working relationships with banks, credit card companies and other financial providers
  • Support grant applications and manage grants, including financial tracking, allocation, and reporting 
  • Oversee annual audit and 990; Coordinate applicable responses/reports/documents 


Organization Operations - 15%

  • Work with staff to troubleshoot office operations issues including minor IT issues
  • Manage and oversee the organization’s email and file management system (currently Google Workspace)
  • Oversee the organization’s insurance policies; submit annual applications and audits/census
  • Procure equipment, supplies and technology for new hires and the office as needed
  • Liaise with with the organization’s third party vendors including IT support


Other Duties as Assigned - 5%


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business or Related Field
  • At least 7 years of experience on internal finance teams, preferably at non-profit institutions
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in finance or accounting preferred
  • Experience managing organizational operations with a focus on efficiency and accuracy
  • Experience with non-profit accounting, audit and 990 preparation
  • Experience with fiscal management of government funding
  • Understanding of nonprofit board governance & experience working with boards
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability and willingness to simultaneously learn current practices and propose plans to improve and optimize the finance and accounting function
  • Passion for and experience working with marginalized communities

Work Demands

  • Work Location: The SCC team has a hybrid schedule and reports to the office 3 days per week (currently Tues/Wed/Thurs); during peak times of the year more in-person office time may be required
  • Travel: Local travel for events, often in the Chicagoland area, is required
  • Non-traditional hours: The three signature events hosted by SCC require non-traditional hours on evenings, weekends and early mornings. These occur in mid October (Bank of America Chicago Marathon), mid November (SCC annual evening reception), and mid-Feb through early March (signature event).

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of such by the date of hire. Individuals may request exemption from the vaccine requirement for medical or religious reasons.


Selection Process

While the selection process may vary slightly, the general process will be:

  • Round 3 Final In-Person Interview with ED and Finance Consultant


Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position, which depends on prior work experience and our assessment of your demonstrated fit for the role, will likely be between $80,000 and $90,000.

Location

The SCC team is hybrid and currently reports to the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week. The office is located in Chicago’s South Loop area accessible by various public transportation options.
