Sr / Lead DevOps Engineer

Office hybrid in San Francisco, CA or McLean, VA

Our Technology, Marketing & Products Engineering team is tasked for innovating and maintaining a substantial distributed systems engineering platform that ships hundreds of features to production for tens of millions of users across all industries every day. Your Impact:

  • You’ll develop observability and telemetry services and tools.
  • You'll brainstorm with Product Owners and Engineers on your team and organization to conceptualize and build new features for our large (and growing) user base.
  • You’ll produce high-quality results by contributing heavily to team projects that have a significant impact on the business.
  • You’ll actively own team features or systems and define their long-term health, while also improving the health of surrounding systems.
  • You’ll improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
  • You’ll demonstrate a sense of autonomy for ownership of your areas and proactively take accountability for progress forward.
  • You’ll create and maintain detailed documentation.
  • You’ll participate in the team’s on-call rotation to address sophisticated problems in real time and keep services operational and highly available.
  • You’ll design, develop, deploy, and enhance automation to reliably manage the observability platform infrastructure.
  • You’ll code review, mentor junior engineers, and provide technical guidance to the team (depending on the seniority level).

Requirements:

  • A related technical degree required.
  • 5+ years of professional development experience and capable of developing in a Cloud-based environment and implementing DevOps best practices.
  • 3+ years deploying distributed apps with containers (Docker) & orchestration (Kubernetes, EKS, GKE).
  • 3+ years of proven ability working within and building on public cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • 3+ years of Linux system engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of working experience in programming languages (Java, Python, Golang).
  • 3+ years experience with Maven/Gradle/Ant builds.
  • 3+ years experience deploying with CI/CD orchestration services (Jenkins, Spinnaker).
  • A continuous learner and a critical thinker.
  • Excellent verbal communication and technical documentation skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, CloudWatch, Zabbix etc.
  • Experience with Log Management and Analytics tools such as Splunk, Loki, Tableau, Grafana.
  • Experience in open-source technologies like HBase, Hadoop, Kafka, Spark, Presto, Hive, Airflow.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational and non-relational databases (Postgres/Oracle/Redshift/Mongo).
  • Experience providing Production Operations support in a 7x24x365 environment.
