Director of Engineering and Construction, Distributed Generation (DG) - Solar

Leap29 is looking to hire an experienced Director of Engineering and Construction for Distributed Generation (DG), with a strong background in managing teams and processes to drive successful project outcomes. This role will oversee all aspects of engineering, procurement, and construction from early development to full operation. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering & Construction in Baltimore, Maryland, this position is crucial to our DG project success.

Key Responsibilities:

• Project Team Management: Oversee daily operations of the project management team, ensuring alignment with project goals.

• Resource Coordination: Manage internal and external resources to support efficient project execution through all stages, including design, procurement, construction, start-up, commissioning, and testing.

• Capital Market Collaboration: Ensure timely delivery of key project documents for the capital markets team to meet financing requirements.

• Project Oversight: Review and manage project schedules, cost estimates, budgets, scopes of work, bills of materials, and contracts to ensure project objectives are met.

• Team Leadership: Direct and support team members to achieve client expectations and business goals.

• Standards and Compliance: Enforce policies, standards, and specifications to maintain quality and compliance across projects.

• Performance Tracking: Ensure that projects meet cost, timeline, quality, and performance metrics.

• Collaboration on Standards: Work with specialists to refine project standards and processes.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in project management, engineering, technology, sciences, or mathematics, or equivalent experience.

• Energy Project Management: Proven experience in managing the design, development, and permitting processes for diverse energy projects.

• Contract Management: Skilled in contract negotiations with a solid understanding of Distributed Generation’s technical, financial, and contractual requirements.

• US Market Knowledge: Hands-on experience in the US solar/distributed generation/BESS market, with strong project implementation skills.

• Time Management and Execution: Demonstrated abilities in time management, project follow-up, and execution.

• Preferred Certification: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or familiarity with the PMBOK® framework.

• Leadership in DG/BESS: Background in managing engineers, program managers, or sales-oriented technical professionals within DG or BESS.

• Customer Relations: Strong client focus and excellent communication skills to represent the organization professionally.

• Technical Proficiency: Competent in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

• Problem Solving and Decision Making: Excellent judgment, risk management, and interpersonal skills, with a track record of handling high-pressure situations effectively.

• Construction and Retrofit Knowledge: Practical knowledge of engineering and construction in solar retrofit or renovation projects.
