Our team succeeds when the entire Project Kuiper organization can scale as needed to be successful.

Key job responsibilities
  1. As a Senior Network Development Engineer working in Kuiper Networking, you will have end to end ownership (design, engineering, implementation, operations escalation) of our current and newly developing IP networks.
  2. Lead the design and evolution of highly available hyper-scale networks, driving them from concept to launch, and beyond.
  3. Define and influence strategy within and outside the team.
  4. Lead project teams to deliver impactful benefits to our customers.
  5. Work closely with our network engineers and software developers to automate network deployment and operations.
  6. Drive operational excellence projects to improve network performance and reliability.
  7. Troubleshoot complex problems and develop innovative solutions.
  8. Hiring, mentoring and coaching engineers.
  9. Review and implement changes on the network.
Physical and Other Requirements:
  1. Must be willing to support an off-hours operations escalation pager rotation.
  2. Experience dealing with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
  3. The ability to sit in front of computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.
  4. Travel to data center/network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.

A day in the life

As a Network Development Engineer for Kuiper, you will be responsible for building, maintaining, and supporting the systems that Kuiper's research, development, and design teams rely on to build out our product. You will coordinate with researchers and engineers to build and support the infrastructure they need. You will work with vendors to evaluate, purchase, deploy, and support mission-critical tools. You will customize and integrate third-party software to meet Amazon's needs. You will improve existing infrastructure to ensure it continues to meet Amazon's high bar for operational excellence.

Note: this position will require onsite work in Bellevue, WA. This is not a remote position.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  1. 5+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment experience.
  2. 3+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience.
  3. Experience in IP networking technologies such as - BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, TCP, IPV6 network hardware platforms, and packet forwarding architectures.
  4. Network design, engineering, implementation, and/or operations experience.
  5. Bachelor's degree in Networking, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Experience leading solution, planning, engineering, growth, operations, and/or enhancement of industry leading IP network solutions.
  2. Ability to lead and deliver complex network projects and drive operational excellence.
  3. Proficiency in developing network automation software.
  4. Extensive experiences in using tools and techniques analyze system stability issues, identify the bottlenecks to optimize the system performance.
  5. Ability to drive and manage customer impacting network events.
  6. Ability to work in a fast paced and collaborative environment.
  7. Ability to deal with ambiguity, prioritize, and time manage effectively.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $143,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
