Job Title: Release Train Engineer (RTE)

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Release Train Engineer (RTE) to join our dynamic team in the financial services sector in Chicago. As an RTE, you will play a pivotal role in facilitating Agile Release Trains (ARTs), aligning cross-functional teams, and ensuring the seamless delivery of complex software solutions in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment. Your expertise in Agile methodologies and ability to lead and coach teams will be critical in driving value delivery for our financial products and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate ART Processes:
  • Lead and facilitate the Agile Release Train (ART) events, including Program Increment (PI) planning, Inspect & Adapt (I&A), Scrum of Scrums, and system demos. Ensure alignment of teams to business objectives, and track progress toward successful PI delivery.
  • Manage Dependencies:
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and development teams to identify, manage, and resolve cross-team dependencies and risks, ensuring smooth and timely release of financial services solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying bottlenecks, implementing Lean-Agile practices, and facilitating regular retrospectives to improve the ART’s performance and operational efficiency.
  • Risk Management:
  • Identify and escalate risks, impediments, and issues related to delivery timelines and program objectives. Facilitate discussions and drive mitigation strategies to maintain delivery schedules.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
  • Act as the primary point of contact between leadership, business stakeholders, and the ART. Provide clear, transparent communication on program progress, risks, and delivery status to C-suite executives, product owners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Coach and Mentor:
  • Provide leadership and coaching in Lean-Agile practices to Scrum Masters, Product Managers, and teams across the ART. Ensure Agile principles are followed and foster a mindset of collaboration and accountability.
  • Performance Metrics:
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of the ART, ensuring the alignment of business outcomes with financial service delivery goals.
  • Release Governance:
  • Oversee the release governance process, ensuring compliance with financial regulatory standards, security policies, and risk management protocols. Ensure the timely and compliant delivery of software releases.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field. Advanced degree or certifications in Agile methodologies (e.g., SAFe® RTE, PMI-ACP, CSM) is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in Agile project management or program management within the financial services industry, with at least 2 years in a Release Train Engineer role. Proven track record in managing complex, large-scale Agile initiatives.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Deep understanding of the SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) and Lean-Agile methodologies.
  • Strong facilitation and leadership skills, with the ability to manage and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior leadership and business stakeholders.
  • Experience in financial services or a highly regulated industry is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Agile tools like JIRA, Rally, or VersionOne.
