San Francisco, United States Terra Quantum AG Full time

Job description

The Quantum Cybersecurity Lead Engineer is part of Terra Quantum’s Product Engineering organization, which is responsible for defining the general product vision, ensuring the company’s ability to implement it, and aligning the product vision with the corporate vision. The Quantum Cybersecurity Lead Engineer reports to the Global Director of Technology. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding and development skills in production of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) hardware and systems, as well as expertise in cryptography and key management system software. The candidate will play a crucial role in developing and rolling-out to customers our quantum security solutions to meet their evolving needs. This position can be hybrid but the candidate must be based in the USA.

The Quantum Cybersecurity Lead Engineer supports the product organization by directly contributing to building scalable, easy-to-use, secure, practical, and intuitive products. Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and outstanding analytical and research skills, as well as the hands-on development chops required to deliver and fully implement solutions. The Quantum Cybersecurity Lead Engineer takes a lead role with customers to implement solutions, and has leadership qualities – able to inspire those around him/her with a vision for the Security product suite, as well as to lead the team of product owners, full-stack developers, hardware engineers, and a variety of cross-functional stakeholders through tactical execution, setting and meeting realistic but ambitious timelines.

S/he will support continuous product development and improvement, including product engineering, research, design, and – in close collaboration with marketing – product marketing. With a naturally curious and empathetic personality, the Quantum Cybersecurity Lead Engineer has a passion for deeply understanding customer needs and uses that knowledge to create cutting-edge quantum security solutions, then translate that into customer solutions. He/she engages and motivates cross-functional stakeholders, including, but not limited to: the Commercial, R&D, Applied Research, Marketing, and Engineering teams to plan and execute work in an agile, iterative fashion, prioritizing that which aligns to the company goals and customer needs. S/he coaches teams to follow Agile best practices while committing to delivery timelines in a complex, distributed environment.

Responsibilities

Overall

  1. Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, researchers, and industry partners to understand and implement quantum-safe cybersecurity solutions for customers.
  2. Fully comprehend and be able to explain post-quantum cryptographic algorithms and protocols to secure communication networks against quantum attacks.
  3. Interpret ways of integrating quantum key distribution (QKD) systems for customers to enhance the security of data transmission.
  4. Assess the performance and security of existing cybersecurity solutions and propose enhancements to ensure quantum resilience.
  5. Take part in simulations and experiments to validate the effectiveness of implemented quantum-safe technologies.
  6. Stay current with advances in quantum cryptography, quantum-safe communications, and related fields to contribute to the implementation of new techniques and methodologies.
  7. Prepare technical documentation and present solution proposals for customers.
  8. Collaborate with whole of government teams, industry, and academic partners to develop strategies on protecting emerging communications technologies.
  9. Work in cross-functional teams to develop strategy, implementation design and plan for nationwide communications infrastructure solutions.

Day-to-day

  1. Work as part of a cross-functional team of business-focused and software engineering professionals to produce modern quantum cybersecurity products and solutions.
  2. Refine and generate architectural concepts that inform the vision for how customers will utilize our solutions and products within the cybersecurity space.
  3. Craft strategic approach to engaging with existing and new customers that leads to successful engagements and outcomes.
  4. Report to the organization on evolving security attack risks such as Side-Channel attacks, Photon Number Splitting attacks, DoS attacks, Trojan Horse Attack, including new novel ways to attack on the implementation of QKD.
  5. Build relationships with customer engineering and security teams to understand their objectives and ongoing challenges.
