Optomi, in partnership with our large entertainment client, is seeking an experienced Media Engineer onsite in The Woodlands for a 24 month contract opportunity with possibility to convert.


Must Have Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with master control and distribution.
  • At least 2 years of experience in IT, Broadcast Engineering, or a related field.
  • Expertise in television production systems, including hardware, software, and specifications. Proficiency with TCP/IP protocols for servers and workstations, systems management, and server administration.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting the stability and uptime of live media production and distribution systems.
  • Proficient understanding of SMPTE standards for broadcast television, video production, and streaming environments. Relevant certifications such as ST 292M, ST 424M, ST 2110, ST 2059, IEEE1588, ST 2022-7, SCTE-104, or similar are desirable.
  • Familiarity with both on-premise and cloud-based storage/compute platforms. A foundational cloud certification (e.g., Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, CompTIA Cloud+) is required.
  • Experience with compression technologies like MPEG2/4, HEVC, JPEG 2000, and JPEG XS.
  • Expertise with Evertz control systems (e.g., VistaLink, Magnum), EQX/EXE routers, and monitoring software (VLPRO, SDVN, VIP, VUE, MVP).
  • Knowledge of major media systems and associated vendor products, including asset management, file-based workflows, transcoding/encoding, and NAS/SAN technologies.
  • Familiarity with Nielsen (NACAT), VANC equipment, Linear Acoustics, and other related broadcast systems is an advantage.
  • Experience with receiver decoders (IRD), core and edge devices, timing, and audio/video media file formats is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret and create AutoCAD drawings or similar technical documentation.


Strong troubleshooting skills in areas:

  • IP-based broadcast systems (routers, switchers, audio boards, encoders/decoders, etc.)
  • Studio equipment (video walls, cameras, VR setups, image processing, lighting)
  • File-based workflows (MAM systems, cloud/local storage, encoding, distribution)
  • Production control systems (e.g., Imagine Communications, Grass Valley, Avid, Adobe, Dalet)
  • Transmission systems (RF, satellite, fiber distribution, etc.)
  • AWS infrastructure and cloud-based technologies (S3, Glacier, EC2)


Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues impacting production, broadcast, and content distribution across multiple networks, including system failures, malfunctions, and outages. Perform diagnostics, repairs, and replacements to resolve problems.
  • Utilize system health and monitoring platforms to identify and address performance issues.
  • Provide operational support for all broadcast-related activities, including maintaining and programming audio/video production and distribution systems across the organization.
  • Assist with hardware and software upgrades under supervision.
  • Perform and coordinate preventative maintenance for all broadcast equipment, such as distribution systems, automation, cameras, robotics, and more, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Contribute to complex engineering projects under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Maintain and update system documentation and workflows.
  • Take on additional duties as needed to support business objectives.
  • Serve as a key influencer, connecting the dots across teams and projects to drive strategic goals, with the ability to influence others and manage relationships effectively.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment, working with minimal direction, managing tight deadlines, and prioritizing multiple tasks while keeping the team updated.
  • Display critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities, working with limited resources to achieve results.
