The Director of Investment Risk Analytics role leads the Analytics team within Investment Risk at T. Rowe Price. The Investment Risk team, which is part of the firm’s Enterprise Risk Group, consists of 47 associates located in the United States, United Kingdom, Luxembourg, and Singapore. Investment Risk is supported by a dedicated technology team of 32 engineers and business analysts in the US and UK. As of June 30, 2024, T. Rowe Price had $1.57T in assets under management.

The Director of Investment Risk Analytics reports to the Head of Investment Risk and has a seat on the Investment Risk lead team. The Analytics team plays a foundational role in supporting Investment Risk’s mission to identify, measure, monitor, communicate/escalate, and help mitigate risks impacting portfolios managed by T. Rowe Price.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Providing production support to ensure: (1) risk models have the proper input data, (2) batch jobs are completed and vendor Service Level Expectations are met, and (3) data coming back from the vendor is complete and accurate.
  2. Ensuring new accounts, benchmarks, and securities/instruments are properly set up in the risk systems.
  3. Partnering with other business units, across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC, to facilitate the distribution of risk data to: (1) front office platforms used by portfolio managers and traders, (2) regulators, (3) internal compliance teams, and (4) clients.
  4. Conducting root cause analysis to remediate recurring processing issues, then implementing solutions by partnering with technology and other business units, as needed, to ensure the issues do not reoccur in the future.
  5. Acting as a center of excellence for business intelligence tools to support risk reporting and dashboards.

To be successful in this role, the Director of Investment Risk Analytics must demonstrate the following:

  1. The ability to actively listen and thoroughly assess the needs of the business (both Investment Risk and Investment Divisions) and formulate a strategic vision for how to allocate available resources to deliver exceptional outcomes.
  2. The influencing skills to guide both direct reports and business partners to a shared vision of the appropriate course of action and the ability to execute on it successfully.
  3. The cultural awareness and sensitivity to successfully lead and/or collaborate with direct reports and business partners from a wide array of backgrounds.

The Director of Investment Risk Analytics will play a critical role in the delivery of accurate and timely risk metrics, reports, and dashboards needed by Investment Risk to deliver independent risk oversight, ensure compliance with global regulatory requirements, and provide risk consulting services.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a strategic vision for the Analytics team:
    1. Engage key stakeholders to understand business needs
    2. Define and obtain buy-in for an Analytics team Target Operating Model
    3. Ensure the Analytics team is appropriately structured and resourced to optimally deliver business needs
  2. Execute on core responsibilities of the Analytics team:
    1. Prioritize work based on input from business partners
    2. Ensure delivery timelines are well communicated and adhered to and communicate quickly if timelines are at risk
    3. Flex the team, as necessary, to adapt to changing business priorities
    4. Own the relationship with Investment Risk’s vendors
    5. Ensure issues with vendor tools are remediated
    6. Convey messages around product roadmaps, production support issues, and model changes with key stakeholders within Investment Risk
  3. Represent Investment Risk on the Chief Data Office’s Data Management Working Group:
    1. Take the lead in ensuring Investment Risk’s data needs from upstream systems are understood by data owners
    2. Contribute to the resolution of upstream data issues impacting Investment Risk
    3. Share best practices from the Chief Data Office with Investment Risk
  4. Take on the role of Data Owner for the Investment Risk data domain:
    1. Act as the data owner for all Investment Risk data
    2. Ensure Investment Risk data is accurate, reliable, and managed effectively throughout its lifecycle
    3. Ensure Investment Risk data management policies and standards align with the vision established by the Chief Data Office
    4. Apply data governance frameworks aligned to the firm’s target operating model
    5. Work with consumers of Investment Risk data to ensure their needs are met

Qualifications:

Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education (quantitative field or business) and relevant experience AND
  2. 10+ years of total relevant work experience (Financial industry, ideally in a data, analytics, or operations leadership role (buy-side or sell-side experience is acceptable))
  3. Leadership experience on an analytics team on the buy-side or sell-side
  4. An understanding of market, liquidity, and climate risk modeling techniques and vendor tools
  5. Experience with a wide range of securities and derivatives
  6. Strong knowledge of data quality assessment techniques
  7. Experience leading production support teams
  8. Experience deploying reports and dashboards using business intelligence tools
  9. Strong analytical skills
  10. Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, with a demonstrated ability to explain complex concepts clearly and confidently to both technical and non-technical audiences
  11. Strong interpersonal skills – an ability to have crucial conversations and demonstrated influencing skills
  12. Strong organization, prioritization, and project management skills, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs
  13. A strong work ethic and attention to detail
  14. Intellectual curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning
  15. A listen first, speak second approach to engaging with others

Preferred:

  1. Postgraduate degree in a quantitative field or business
  2. Completion of a relevant professional accreditation, such as the CFA, FRM, PRM, or CAIA
  3. Experience leading teams with a global footprint
  4. Experience with MSCI’s BarraOne, RiskManager, LiquidityMetrics, and Climate Lab Enterprise platforms
  5. Experience with risk modeling capabilities provided by Bloomberg
  6. Experience deploying reports and dashboards using Microsoft’s Power BI
  7. Experience with workflow management tools such as Jira and Rally
  8. Familiarity with risk modeling techniques, such as those applicable to predicting volatility, tracking error, Value-at-Risk; stress testing; assessing liquidity risk; calculating counterparty potential future exposure; and performing climate risk scenario analysis

FINRA Requirements:

FINRA licenses are not required and will not be supported for this role.

This role is eligible for hybrid work, with up to two days per week from home.
