The opportunity

As a Principal Product Design Architect within Magic Leap's Hardware organization, you will lead the technical architecture of a next-generation augmented reality device and have significant impact in enabling the ecosystem. You will design and implement system architectures meeting ID intent while optimizing DFM, DFA, along new technology integration. You will drive technical strategy, solve complex architectural challenges, and create innovative design patterns that enable breakthrough AR experiences.

What you’ll do

  1. Lead the end-to-end mechanical design for a device or system
  2. Push the state-of-the-art in design, materials, and assembly processes in order to reach solutions for a highly constrained design space
  3. Convert the Industrial Design team's vision to mechanical designs that also meet the product KPIs
  4. Work across the entire product development lifecycle, although the focus is on the early stage of ideation and solution development
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams from NTI to high volume manufacturing

The experience you bring

  1. Over 15 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering design of various generations of mobile, handheld or wearable consumer electronics products
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  3. Master-level CAD design experience that translates into speed of iterations combined with the ability to compare multiple options and present the trades space and risks
  4. Expert level in Creo is preferred. Ability to also work in NX is highly preferred
  5. Understanding of FEA for structural and thermal simulation
  6. Experience designing for Human Factors and user experience
  7. Experience with DFM and in designing, prototyping, testing, to shipping high volume products
  8. Strong influence and collaboration skills

  2. Expert level NX experience
  3. Master’s or Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering discipline
