What we need
As a Director of Software Engineering, you will play a leadership role in the application development organization and will oversee all business applications needed to run the business. In this role you will be responsible for leading development, configuration, and implementation of all business applications. These include but are not limited to back-office ERP systems, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and Customer web portal.

What you’ll do

  • Help create and drive product roadmaps through a fast, agile, and reliable delivery process, while ensuring a consistently high-quality product.
  • Develop and maintain technical vision for software development deliverables.
  • Manage the software development and production delivery with strong focus on meeting the team’s commitments.
  • Take initiative to explore new ways to advance our technologies to ensure Symbotic remains at the cutting edge in our industry.
  • Work collaboratively and efficiently with internal and external resources. Develop relationships with outside consultants and contractors who can be used as flex resources to augment your organization’s capabilities.
  • Measure performance (metrics) related to quality, efficiency, on-time delivery.
  • Work with others to build and maintain schedules, keep team aware of dependencies and target milestones.
  • Identify risks, plan mitigations.
  • Resource planning and project assignment.
  • Managing vendor relations for 3rd party applications.
  • Provide clarity regarding standard work (develop guidelines, templates, processes, etc.).
  • Mentor and coach (1:1s), identify and remove technical gaps, facilitate performance feedback discussions.
  • Provide code reviews and other forms of feedback to ensure software quality.
  • Contribute to the software architecture directly.

What you’ll need

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related discipline required.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in software development including 5+ years spent in engineering leadership.
  • Previous experience leading software development projects – planning, estimating, and overseeing software developers.
  • Experience in implementing business applications (i.e. ERP, WMS, TMS).
  • Experience developing high performance applications.
  • General knowledge of hardware and software technologies related to Symbotic’s products.
  • Ability to manage high pressure situations and build trust with stakeholders.
  • Ability to input into product strategy in the context of Symbotic’s business strategy.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple simultaneous issues.
  • Outstanding time management skills and attention to details.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a rapidly changing startup environment.

Our environment

  • Up to 50% travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
