Job Summary:

The Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting both the Applications Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering teams at Arcmed while reporting to the Engineering Manager. This position will focus on the design and management of bill of materials for medical device components, specifically machined and bonded manifolds, between multiple facilities. The Design Engineer will be responsible for engineering activities that include design, research, prototyping, engineering documentation, cost estimation, and sustaining activities related to manifolds. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in fluidics, mechanical design and machining, demonstrating ownership of the full product development cycle of various manifold assemblies.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed analysis of the component parts configuration/dimensions for production with a focus on DFM
  • Create manifold fabrication layers out of 3D models to prepare for CNC programming
  • Support the Manufacturing teams through CAM (Mastercam) process validation
  • Collaborates cross functionally to ensure all design requirements are clearly defined and met
  • Support Applications Engineer through design transfer of new products and cost estimating with respect to materials related to manifolds, machined and/or bonded
  • Draft test plans to evaluate feasibility and verification of new and existing product designs
  • Provide troubleshooting support for CNC machinists/operators, inspectors, manufacturing engineering and quality
  • Design/Develop bonding process requirements during development and establish clear, accurate, process documentation
  • Ensure accurate engineering/inspection data for production transfer
  • Contributes to market research through trade associations, networking, corporate services to facilitate NPD and research projects


Computer and Software Experience

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD experience, Solidworks or similar.
  • Knowledge of materials science and manufacturing processes, CNC programming/machining is a plus
  • Technical Knowledge and experience with fluid systems, pressure/flow testing experience is desired
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and use of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry with knowledge of quality systems
  • Must be able to communicate and build relationships across functions and at all levels of the organization with confidence and authority.
  • Ability to manage complexity and resolve conflicts that arise from balancing multiple priorities, utilizing project management skills to ensure clear visibility, accountability, and action tracking


Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related technical degree
  • 3-5 years of engineering experience


Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Shall have essential physical skills; be able to run, squat, stoop/bend, kneel, climb stairs, be able to lift at least 50 pounds (or ¼ own body weight).
  • Shall have adequate vision, reading, writing, and documentation skills, and hearing to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Must have enough endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.
  • Will be engaged in speaking, sitting, walking, driving, listening, and in communicating both orally and in writing while performing his or her duties.
  • Must be able to listen and respond to questions and instructions.
