Director of Software Engineering - Unleash the Power of Light

Role Overview: Are you an experienced leader with a deep technical background in Software Engineering and a passion for real-time data processing? We're looking for a Director to lead our team and drive the development of innovative software solutions that extract unparalleled insights from vast amounts of data. You will be responsible for managing the entire software lifecycle, from concept to delivery, while also being hands-on in development and problem-solving.

The ideal candidate for this role is a brilliant and deeply experienced Tech Lead SWE who thrives in the excitement of a startup environment. You will have the opportunity and technical authority to build all software engineering practices from the ground up. You will scale our real-time data collection and processing into the Petabytes and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Establish best practices in software engineering, testing, and lifecycle management in a fast-moving startup.
  2. Lead and mentor a growing team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
  3. Architect, design, and implement scalable pipelines to capture and process data from fiber optic sensing networks in real-time.
  4. Develop and deploy cutting-edge analysis tools to derive actionable insights, pushing the boundaries of technology and data science.
  5. Oversee the integration and optimization of software systems, ensuring high performance and reliability.
  6. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including engineers, scientists, and executive leadership to align development efforts with business goals.
  7. Streamline and automate development processes to enhance team efficiency and productivity.
  8. Drive the end-to-end delivery of the product, from initial concept through to successful deployment and ongoing support.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  1. 10 years of experience with at least 5 years in a senior role successfully managing and scaling software engineering teams.
  2. Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent experience.
  3. Extensive experience with real-time and high-performance streaming applications.
  4. Proficiency in programming such as Python, and/or Java/C++ and strong experience with GPU programming for numerical computations and/or machine learning.
  5. Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.
  6. Authorized to work in the U.S.

Qualifications:

  1. Ability to obtain U.S. Security Clearance.
  2. Hands-on experience with fiber optic sensing datasets.
  3. Background in telecommunications or enterprise IT environments.
  4. Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform.
