Project Controls Specialist II

Location: Charlotte, NC

Pay: $53-70/hour (dependent on employee experience level)

Schedule: Full-time; Hybrid (3 days/week in office)

Job Type: Contract; 3-year duration


This position is responsible for initiating and completing routine aspects of project control assignments, using prescribed methods and tools. This position performs the more complex aspects of scheduling, cost control, and change documentation, while reporting up to program or portfolio level. This position is expected to have advanced skills using Primavera (P6) and can work independently. This position supports Project Managers on varying size projects and is expected to train and teach other members of Project Controls organization with minimal oversight.


Responsibilities

  • Generate Periodic Project Controls Reports - Generate daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly project controls reports. Responsible for gathering, verifying, validating, and analyzing data in support of project controls reporting. Responsible for distributing and archiving project controls reports as appropriate.
  • Perform Change Control - Track and manage changes to the project scope, schedule, and cost baseline. Identify, assess, gain approval for, and distribute change requests, change notices and/or change orders in a manner compliant with internal governance standards and terms and conditions of relevant contracts (as appropriate).
  • Project Controls Benchmarking and Self-Assessment Initiatives - Assist in scheduling and carrying out benchmarking and self-assessment initiatives relevant to project controls and the types of projects typically managed by the project controls group. Identify and communicate improvement opportunities, adoption of best practices and counter measures to address gaps in performance.
  • Expertise in Project Controls Methodologies. Develops and maintains WBS, project schedules, cost estimates, track, and trend cash flow reports, change control documentation (scope, cost, or schedule) and/or any reports associated with project controls. Tracks and reports project status performs variance, earned value and critical path analyses at a level appropriate for the project. At the Sr PCS level, this position will have expectations of portfolio analysis and reporting.
  • Create and Maintain Project Estimate. Work with Estimator(s) to create or create project cost estimate to establish effective cost controls management. Assure that project estimate includes all necessary materials, resource / labor rates, manufactured materials / equipment as well as current industry data relative to project scope. Manage the estimate according to PMCoE Estimating Standard and review cycle.
  • Effective Team Participation. The PCS is responsible for maintaining effective relationships with customers, supports the resolution of quality issues and completes assignments (proposals, project tasks, reports, etc.) as negotiated. Displays proficiency in conflict resolution and reaching win-win outcomes among team members.


Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a two-year college or university - business, finance, project management, engineering, technical, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of project controls scheduling experience using primavera (P6).
  • Minimum of 5 years of project controls scheduling experience using primavera (p6) in lieu of a degree.
  • Working knowledge of project controls principles.
  • Working Knowledge to Proficiency with project management / project controls concepts / computer applications such as scheduling software, financial tools, spreadsheets; proven collaborative team member.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university -business, finance, project management, engineering, technical, or equivalent.
  • PMI or AACE certification (the following or equivalent are acceptable - PMP, CAPM, PMI-SP, AACE-CCC, AACE-PSP, AACE-CEP, AACE-EVP).
  • Software such as Primavera, Business Objects, Passport, MS Office Suite, Prolog, Visio, Powerplant, Maximo, PeopleSoft.
  • The Project Controls Specialist II may have relationships with individuals of varying levels in various organizations.
  • Project teams of external Suppliers/Vendors.
  • This role is for a project scheduler who must have hands on experience using primavera (p6) as the scheduling software.
