Principal Data Scientist

Position Summary: Walmart is seeking a highly skilled Principal Data Scientist with a strong Causal Inference background to join our Health & Wellness team in Sunnyvale, CA. As a leading retailer, Walmart is committed to improving the health and wellness of our customers. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in causal inference to develop and apply data-driven insights that drive meaningful impact in health and wellness outcomes.
About Team: We are a high-powered team dedicated to providing innovative solutions at the intersection of retail and consumer health that empower Walmart’s consumers, businesses, and partners to make informed decisions.
What you'll do:
- Develop and apply causal inference methods to identify relationships between various health and wellness factors, such as nutrition, physical activity, and health outcomes.
- Analyze large datasets to identify patterns, trends, and correlations that inform health and wellness initiatives and programs.
- Develop and maintain data visualizations and reports to communicate insights and findings to stakeholders.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in data science, health and wellness, and causal inference, and apply this knowledge to improve our data analytics capabilities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, data analysts, and subject matter experts to design and implement data pipelines and analytics solutions that drive insights and inform decision-making.
- Collaborate with external partners and vendors to evaluate the effectiveness of health and wellness interventions and programs.
What you'll bring:
- Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in data science, with a focus on causal inference.
- Strong understanding of statistical concepts such as regression, hypothesis testing, and confidence intervals.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R.
- Experience with data manipulation, analysis, and visualization tools such as pandas, numpy, matplotlib, seaborn, or Tableau.
- Experience with machine learning algorithms and techniques such as decision trees, random forests, and clustering.
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms such as AWS or GCP.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in the healthcare or retail industry.
- Experience with data storytelling and presentation to non-technical audiences.
- Knowledge of privacy and security principles related to health data.
