Lead Software Engineer - Apex

Office hybrid in San Francisco, CA

The Salesforce Cloud Economics and Capacity Management (CECM) team is looking for a Lead Engineer with experience across distributed systems to join us

You will be working multi-functionally with engineers, architects, and product managers to build the breakthrough features that our internal customers will love, adopt and use while ensuring stable and scalable applications. You will also be working with data scientists to innovate and deliver distributed backend technologies, sometimes including big data technologies. You'll be a part of a modern, lean, self-governing product engineering team where you have the ability to switch hats between coding to requirements gathering, to testing for quality and performance.

CECM develops intelligent, data-driven tools which enable strategic decision-making pertaining to Salesforce infrastructure expenditure and capacity management. We are building a platform that provides near real-time monitoring of cost and capacity utilization of the infrastructure, which will help in optimizing resource allocation and minimizing costs. We apply advanced machine learning techniques to turn the petabytes of data generated by our global infrastructure into actionable predictions and business insights used by capacity planners, internal service owners, and technical leaders daily. As an internal tooling team, engineers are expected to directly interact with customers to develop requirements and design, release and maintain distributed systems with visibility throughout Salesforce.

Role Responsibilities:
You must have a proven background in Force.com and Python programming and an understanding of Javascript, CSS, SOAP XML, and HTML. You will be responsible for developing through all phases of the front-end to the back-end development lifecycle. You will use your experience to work with team members to develop new features, as well as enhance existing applications and frameworks. You should have a history of building successful Web-based solutions using Web Services and the ability to grasp a variety of unfamiliar technology and integrate them quickly.

Your Impact:

This job requires that you be a self-starter with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. You must possess good oral and written documentation skills and be able to interact with other team members to deliver fast and reliable code. You will also be asked to supply ideas and provide feedback on many projects within the team’s portfolio. We’re a flat, lean, agile, self-governing team. We value transparency and trust. We continue to create purpose in our work, question the status quo, seek individual mastery and encourage autonomy.

As part of this role, you will:

  • Architect, design, implement, test and deliver highly scalable products
  • Master our development process, culture and code base, then improve it
  • Operate efficiently in the hybrid engineering model where engineers are encouraged to craft and complete the vital work to ensure quality in their own code as well as other engineers
  • Mentor others in development technologies, tools, and processes
  • Present your own designs to internal/external groups and review designs of others
  • Develop test strategies, design automation frameworks, write unit/functional tests to drive up code coverage and automation metrics
  • Participate in the on-call rotation to address sophisticated problems in real-time and keep services operational and highly available

Required Skills:

  • A related technical degree required
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience
  • 4+ years of experience developing and customizing Salesforce.com applications via web services, Apex, SOQL, Visualforce, Eclipse IDE, Data Loader, Reports and Dashboards, and Tableau.
  • Deep knowledge of OOP and experience with at least one language (Python, Java, Javascript, C++, C#, Ruby)
  • High proficiency in at least one high-level programming language and web framework (NodeJS, Express, Hapi, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of web technologies, such as JavaScript, CSS, HTML5, XML, JSON, and/or Ajax
  • Validated understanding of Database technologies such as SQL, PL/SQL and relational database schema design
  • Experience with Salesforce integration tools (e.g. MuleSoft)
  • Experience in automated testing including unit and functional testing using Java, JUnit, JSUnit, Selenium
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience building highly scalable web applications.
  • Experience with Agile software development and test-driven development.
  • Track record of being a top performer in current and past roles
