JOB SUMMARY:

  • Responsible for all aspects of Human Resources management with a focus on employee relations, policy development and implementation, standardizing people management strategies across the enterprise and talent acquisition.
  • Reporting to this position are three HR Business Partners who directly support the approximately 6,500 associates in our stores, corporate office and distribution center.
  • Additionally, this position supervises a Recruitment Specialist and manages the recruitment function of The Cato Corporation including pre-employment, recruitment and relocation of all new hires, and onboarding.
  • This position will have a specific focus on being a resource to each of the business unit heads for employee relations and talent acquisition.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Add value to the development of the business strategy and establish the strategic Human Resources agenda to ensure that the business needs of Cato are anticipated and addressed.
  • Guide the development and implementation of associate-related programs and processes that will support both the legal and business requirements of Cato, drive a culture of success, and reinforce the attractiveness of Cato as an employer.
  • Lead the organization in implementing change, coaching and modeling for executives and managers the behaviors and communication that will foster a culture that optimizes both the employee and customer experience.
  • Through management of the HR Business Partners, work with managers throughout the company to standardize consistent performance feedback and management, including progressive discipline where warranted.
  • Attract, develop and retain diverse talent within the organization. Understand and anticipate current and future talent needs of the organization. Evaluate and advise senior management on the impact of long range planning of new talent programs/strategies.
  • Establish credibility throughout the organization with management and the associates in order to be an effective listener and problem solver of people issues and concerns.
  • Advise the CAO in regards to recruitment strategies and work closely with the Recruitment Specialist to meet staffing needs within budget restraints.
  • Source candidates, conduct pre-screening of candidates to present to hiring manager, initiate the interview process, coordinate interview trips/meetings and monitor all new hire processes for compliance with company hiring procedures.
  • Make recommendations for hires, salary levels and relocation needs.
  • Facilitate relocation of new hires and their families. Work with carriers and temporary housing agencies to assure a smooth transition.
  • Negotiate contract terms with all HR vendors and establish and maintain positive relationships.


EDUCATION:

  • College degree in Business/Human Resources or related field, required with specialized training in Recruiting.


WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum seven years of experience leading a Human Resources function with at least five years in Recruitment.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive employee inquiries or complaints.
  • Demonstrated HR leadership in a business with multi-site, multi-state operations, and appropriate industry experience, preferably in the retail field.
  • Strong HR background with knowledge of recruiting, equity/inclusion, compensation, benefits, organizational development, employee relations, contextual management, legally compliant EEO investigations, training, and HRIS.
  • Knowledge of employment law, ERISA, Title VII, payroll, OSHA, FSLA, FMLA, ACA, ADA (including reasonable accommodation and the interactive process) and other employment laws and regulations.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with demonstrated change management experience.
  • Strong/demonstrated leadership, team building, positive interpersonal and relationship development skills. Coaching and mentoring skills are a must.
  • An intelligent and articulate individual, who can relate to people at all levels of an organization, possesses excellent communication skills, and models behavior and communication that optimizes individual growth and performance and company performance.
