The Enterprise Risk Organization (ERO) Chief of Staff Team serves a critical role leading governance and oversight to a number of senior management committee and Board activities, while also supporting broader ERO efforts around strategy, reporting and culture. We are seeking a highly motivated risk management professional with excellent project management, problem solving, and communication skills. The ideal candidate has experience partnering with senior leaders and is a big picture thinker who is organized, has a passion to identify and drive continuous improvement, and can deliver innovative solutions.

In this chief of staff team role, you will have the opportunity to wear many hats and make an incredible impact on the ERO organization. You will have a high level of exposure across ERO and the opportunity to work with senior leaders to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the Company.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the well-managed strategy and execution of our Executive Risk Committee (ERC) and Technology, Operational, Compliance, and Cyber (TOCC) processes, supporting an EC and EVP leader, respectively.
  • Lead the well-managed strategy, continuous improvement, and execution of the quarterly Integrated Risk Management Report (IRMR) for our Board of Directors; Oversee additional ERO inputs and requests for Board meetings, supporting our Chief Enterprise Risk Officer (CERO).
  • Lead our data-driven ERO Imperatives action plan and support ERM with ongoing prioritization work to ensure we are moving the needle on our most important work.
  • Lead and collaborate on prioritized continuous improvement opportunities and/or ERO-wide initiatives. Develop and enhance processes, tools, templates, and job aids.
  • Develop executive-ready presentations, materials, and lead deliverables for dual Chief Risk Officer attestation (including, but not limited to SEC Reporting, Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) / Capital Plan Narrative (CPN), Capital Markets Material Nonpublic Information (MNPI) Diligence, and Call Reports).
  • Partner with External Affairs to draft and support Regulator preparation documents for our CERO.
  • Support the ERO chief of staff with building and fostering an ERO management system that incorporates the interaction model and systems in place to support our CERO.
  • Partner horizontally with our Credit and Financial Risk Management (CFRM) chief of staff partners, ERO chief of staff team and broader ERO leads and chiefs of staff across our organization on ERO-wide projects. This will include Governance processes and deliverables and may include people and culture work.
  • As needed, offer other ad-hoc consulting or operational support to major chief of staff projects or organizational needs/opportunities.

You’ll need to wear many hats including:

  • Project Leader: You’re detailed- and process-oriented and adeptly manage several projects and initiatives at once with supportive direction. You have relentlessly high standards and attention to the smallest details with the ability to adapt to change quickly.
  • Problem-solver: You understand intent and goals for a project, propose plans to meet those needs, and autonomously pursue options to deliver results in a well-managed manner. You bring in data and metrics to ensure we’re moving the needle and identifying insights.
  • Juggler: You don’t get overwhelmed or flustered easily as you’re able to aptly prioritize and toggle between multiple high-project projects and processes successfully. You seek guidance to reprioritize as needed to adjust with changing business needs, and take action with urgency as appropriate.
  • Valued partner: You have a proven track record of collaborative work relationships and building strong relationships; you thrive in a matrixed environment. You have a strong understanding of Capital One, including our company’s Risk Management organizations.
  • Team player: You are highly motivated and willing to roll up your sleeves and get the job done, even in situations where the work is outside of the scope of your respective role.
