Head of Trading (Latin America)

SUMMARY OF THE JOB

The Head of Region is responsible for defining the regional strategy for the region LATAM, in line with the Holcim Trading & Shipping global strategy. He/she defines the business plan to execute it in his/her region and ensure he/she achieves the expected KPIs:

  • As a member of the Management Team, ensure company culture, code of conduct and compliance is observed and continuously enhanced within his/her team in particular and as well contribute to its improvement at company level.
  • Managing a team of traders, trading operators and charterers, coordinating them to maximize volume and profitability of both internal and external sales.
  • Develop and manage a network of internal and external business partners.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and tools aiming at enhancing efficiency and agility in day-to-day business, while observing compliance.
  • Ensure adequate resources are deployed to execute the strategy and business plan while respecting the internal processes and policies.
  • Managing risk and compliance for trading and shipping in his/her region.
  • Support business intelligence and project development for the Group.

MAIN ACTIVITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

The Head of Region contributes to the elaboration of the overall global Trading & Shipping strategy and in particular develops the strategy for his/her region, being responsible for ensuring its execution.

The Head of Region is also a key contributor to “read” the worldwide and regional international trading and shipping market, to identify opportunities and risks and to anticipate strategies to take best advantage for them. Proposes, and is involved in specific strategic development projects related to seaborne import/export of all products traded in the region.

Supports import/export Group companies and/or corporate in the definition and implementation of local strategy and optimization of footprint when related to international seaborne flows. She/he provides expertise on investment alternatives.

The Head of Region is in charge of developing and maintaining a network of decision makers (usually company CEOs) in the global cement and construction materials industry, in particular in countries where the Group does not have a presence.

Business objectives

The Head of Region is accountable for his/her trading P&L. He/she is accountable for defining the business roadmap in line with the overall Holcim Trading & Shipping strategy and the regional one:

  • Deliver on the financial targets budgeted as a minimum (EBIT, FCF, others).
  • Fulfilment of export/import requirements of Group companies in line with market profitability, support the maximization of Group assets utilization.
  • Maximize third party volumes and profitability, while developing strategic long term relationships.
  • Manage key counterparts through regular visits and KYC approach.
  • Definition and continuous update and upgrade of the priority countries, counterparts, product portfolio, define respective value propositions and resource allocation.
  • Manage extreme situations (e.g. sudden shortage or surplus in a given country, port challenges, etc.).
  • Foster innovation through keeping updated with the technological and commercial developments at group level and in the region, as well as externally in the industry and translate them into service and product offers.
  • Comply with all the internal policies and processes and contribute to a seamless management business cycle.

People Development

As a member of HT&S management Team, the Head of Region contributes to the overall safety performance of HT&S. He/she is directly responsible for the Health and Safety of direct and N-2 reports.

The Head of Region is responsible for ensuring adequate staffing of the regional team in line with HT&S overall ambition. He/she also ensures the personal development of each member in line with the respective competency profiles. The Head of Region also plays a key role to ensure effective teamwork between the different departments in his/her office (Trading, Operations, Shipping), with the other offices, with the support functions (Business Intelligence, Finance, HR, Legal, etc.) both at HT&S as well as at Corporate and with the Group Business Units.

The Head of Region plays a key role in coaching and developing identified Group talents and to prepare them for future general management or senior commercial positions.

Due to the nature of international seaborne trading, risk management is a key responsibility of the Head of Region:

  • Adherence to the Holcim Code of Business Conduct and all other applicable Group policies.
  • Monitoring of the enforcement of the Holcim Trading and Shipping Policies in the region.
  • Protection of the Holcim Group reputation and brand value.
  • Approval of trades and execution of contracts as authorized by CEO of Holcim Trading within the framework of the Group and HT&S delegation of authority.
  • Supervision of trades and early identification and resolution of potential risks.
  • Arbitration on Group sources/destinations in order to optimize overall costs whilst balancing country and customer risks.
  • Direct intervention on material risk prevention.
  • Crisis management.
  • A posteriori controls on key risks to ensure respect of corporate governance.
  • Proposes, approves and monitors as per DOA model open position taking/closing.

PROFILE REQUIRED

Education/ Qualification:

University technical/commercial/management education, ideally executive business degree (eMBA).

Experience:

Min. 10 years of management positions in building materials/cement businesses. Sales, Marketing and Strategy experience is a must, ideally completed by exposure to maritime logistics and/or seaborne supply chain.

Knowledge and skills:

Technical competencies/job knowledge: in-depth understanding of cement/cementitious, properties and usages for various types of customers (IP, GS, distributors, construction sites). Expertise in international seaborne trading and maritime regulations and logistics.

Managerial and Interpersonal competencies/communication: agility to adjust management style and interpersonal relationship to a broad variety of country and company cultures, diplomatic, consistently promoting Holcim values and principles. Result driven, self-starter and hands on, while able to have a long term vision and define short to long term strategies.

Cultural and language Skills: Bilingual English and Spanish, mastery of at least 1 additional internationally representative languages. Posted experience in at least 2 different countries. Strong appetite and curiosity for geo-political topics and multinational cultures.

Languages:

Excellent English, written and spoken.

Excellent Spanish, written and spoken.

Mastery of at least 1 additional internationally representative language (e.g., Portuguese, French, Mandarin, etc.).

US work permits:

Active working permit in the US.

Position is based in Miami.
