Civil Engineer

The Village of Mokena, Illinois (pop. 19,887) is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Civil Engineer. The individual hired for this new position will work to provide in-house engineering services to the community’s residents and developers. This position will handle all aspects of traditional municipal engineering with an initial primary focus directing and supervising the construction and maintenance of the Village streets, transportation, and storm water projects along with other related infrastructure as directed. The candidate must possess a Licensure as a Professional Engineer in Illinois.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a record of significant accomplishments in a growing suburban community committed to excellence in customer service. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for capital project planning and management, contract consultant supervision and management, coordination of information and activities with IDOT, Will County, and other agencies, commercial and residential plan review, and the development of RFQs and RFPs for outside engineering services, as well as other traditional municipal engineering services.

Experience in project management, surveying, design, and construction of public works-related projects is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, CAD, and GIS systems is also required. Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are a must. This position will work under the supervision of the Public Works Director and the Assistant Public Works Director, and may supervise Public Works employees as assigned by or in the absence of the Public Works Director or Assistant Public Works Director.

Two to five years of progressively responsible experience in a municipal or consulting environment is required. The successful candidate will be able to effectively communicate and work (both independently and collaboratively) in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with fellow employees, supervisors, elected officials, and the public. Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is required. Licensure as a Professional Engineer in Illinois is also required, along with the ability to attain specified water and wastewater operator certifications upon employment.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $107,000 to $128,000, based on qualifications. An excellent benefit package is also included.
