Position Overview:

Layer N is seeking a talented and experienced General Counsel to join the team. The General Counsel role is cross-functional and provides advice and counsel to all levels of the organization on a wide range of legal issues in the dynamic and evolving web3/blockchain space, including corporate, regulatory, commercial, compliance, employment, and operations. This role is ideal for an individual who thrives in a startup environment, brings an interdisciplinary approach to solving problems, and is comfortable working independently and directly with various stakeholders, including senior level executives. You will report to the CEO and COO and be responsible for managing and executing on key transactions, initiatives and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide thought leadership and strategic direction on blockchain technology legal and regulatory issues.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of complex agreements, investments, service-provider agreements and others.

  • Stay up-to-date on relevant U.S. and international laws and regulations and public policy matters affecting the industry.

Requirements:

  • Currently licensed in a U.S. state; JD or equivalent degree from a top-tier school with a strong academic record.

  • Minimum of 4+ years of legal experience, preferably including in-house experience, with a background in corporate, technology transactions, securities and/or regulatory matters.

  • Strong interest and understanding of digital currency and blockchain technology. Experience with legal issues arising in blockchain applications preferred.

  • Excellent negotiating, drafting and transaction structuring skills (in particular, the ability to manage negotiations with multiple stakeholders), and strong analytical and organizational skills.

  • Proven problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Collaborative, positive and team-oriented style with a proven record of building strong relationships, both internally and externally, at all levels and across different teams and functions.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Solutions-oriented with strong business acumen.



The base salary range for this full-time position is $180K - $350K. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and typical maximum target for new hire salaries for the position of a candidate based in New York at any level. We do hire exceptionally talented professionals with decades of experience in their field. As such, our range may be higher than what is displayed. Our base salary ranges are determined by experience and location, and we hire at all levels for multiple roles. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location, job-related skills demonstrated during the interviews, working experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in role postings reflect the base salary only and do not include equity, tokens, or benefits.
