Job Title: Mainframe and Cloud Architect

Location: Plano, TX

Job Type: Contract (Project End Date Sept 2026)

Workplace Type: Hybrid with 3 days a week on-site


Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Mainframe and Cloud Architect with expertise in modernizing mainframe applications and migrating them to the cloud. The ideal candidate will have experience with tools such as Microfocus Analyzer, Qlik, and Informatica Power Exchange, and will be adept at conducting comprehensive assessments and designing scalable cloud architectures.


Key Responsibilities:

1. **Mainframe Modernization and Assessment:**

- Utilize Microfocus Analyzer for detailed assessments of mainframe application components, including Cobol, PL/1, ASM, and integration points (FTP, Network, Application).

- Maintain an accurate inventory of mainframe components and document findings on footprints, risks, and gaps.


2. **Strategy Development:**

- Develop comprehensive strategies for migrating and modernizing mainframe applications to the cloud.

- Collaborate with development teams to streamline workflows and address dependencies.


3. **Data Replication and Integration:**

- Expertise in Mainframe to Cloud Data replication tools like Qlik and Informatica Power Exchange V10.5 and R4Z.

- Integrate mainframe applications with the Microfocus Analyzer for enhanced management and visibility.


4. **Cloud Architecture Design:**

- Design scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud architectures that integrate seamlessly with existing mainframe systems.

- Implement modernization strategies, developing new cloud-native applications or adapting existing mainframe applications for the cloud.


5. **Decommissioning and Sunset Planning:**

- Collaborate with Applications, Infrastructure teams, and Cloud strategy architects to decommission mainframe applications.

- Develop and execute detailed plans for decommissioning, ensuring minimal disruption to critical processes.


6. **Risk Management and Mitigation:**

- Assess and mitigate risks associated with data migration, interoperability, and communication between mainframe and modernization target states.

- Develop backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity before decommissioning.


7. **Stakeholder Collaboration:**

- Work closely with stakeholders to identify dependencies and ensure comprehensive planning and execution of modernization projects.


Qualifications:

- Proven expertise in Mainframe modernization and assessment tools, particularly Microfocus Analyzer.

- Experience with mainframe to cloud data replication tools such as Qlik and Informatica Power Exchange.

- Strong understanding of mainframe application batch processing, database components, and scheduling tools.

- Ability to design and implement scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud architectures.

- Excellent documentation and communication skills to provide clear assessment findings and strategic plans.

- Collaborative mindset to work effectively with development, infrastructure, and cloud strategy teams.


Preferred Skills:

- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

- Knowledge of mainframe decommissioning best practices and risk mitigation strategies.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
