Role Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Backend Data Developer to join as our third team member, building and optimizing the backend systems crucial for our data-intensive robotics projects. You’ll be a core part of our mission, bringing technical rigor to our data architecture, code quality, and systems integration. If you’re an experienced developer with a strong command of backend systems and a passion for building data infrastructure in robotics, we’d love to meet you.

Note: This position does not offer visa sponsorship. Compensation is based on Boston's cost of living, with potential adjustments if located in areas with a lower cost of living.


Key Responsibilities
  • Database and Data Pipeline Development: Design and implement scalable databases and data pipelines to manage and process large datasets for robotics applications.
  • Systems Integration: Collaborate across teams to integrate backend infrastructure with hardware and software layers, ensuring data continuity and system reliability.
  • Code Quality and Automated Testing: Develop and enforce best practices in code quality, establish automated testing frameworks, and maintain high standards in deployment processes.
  • Optimization and Maintenance: Continuously analyze and optimize backend performance, ensuring systems are robust, reliable, and scalable to meet evolving needs.
  • Technical Leadership: Act as a resource for technical advice, contributing to architecture and design discussions to align backend development with the overall system architecture.


Day-to-Day
  • Build and maintain robust backend databases, secure data flow, and optimize storage structures.
  • Implement automated testing and QA procedures, ensuring high code quality and maintainability.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss project goals, backend requirements, and integration strategies.
  • Write, review, and improve backend code, focusing on performance and scalability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration challenges, working closely with both the hardware and exploratory R&D teams.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced technical certifications are a plus.
  • 5+ years of professional, post-graduate experience in backend development (note: experience gained through academic coursework or internships does not count toward this requirement).
  • Expertise in backend programming languages such as Python, Node.js, or Go, and experience with database systems like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar.
  • Proficiency in automated testing frameworks (e.g., pytest, Jest) and comprehensive knowledge of code quality standards.
  • Familiarity with robotics, machine learning workflows, or similar data-driven applications is a significant advantage.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with an ability to translate backend requirements into robust systems that align with our technical vision.
